I'll agree with that for sure. LOL when compared to the Wii, lol thats quite a leap. When I play my PS3 and the Wii U I dont really notice a difference.

But where is the benefit of going further to photo-realistic graphics if no one will notice a real difference to the graphics like they are now already in Ps3, Wiiu games? If you play Uncharted 3 it already looks like photo-realistic, if you play gears of War it looks like photo-realistic, parts of this games look already even better than the reality because they use brighter colors than reality do, no one except for some graphics fetishists will notice improvements to this graphics especially when you play the game the focus is not only on the graphics.
So why someone should invest millions of dollars in development if no one will notice a real difference?

are you kidding? what they have shown from PS4 is already NOTICEABLE different than what is on PS3. Hell you can notice the difference between a game running on a high end PC than its console counterpart. (Bioshock Inifinte comes to mind)

I could use UE4 to render 10 polygons on screen. It's scalable. Engine revs are usually dependent on built in hardblocks/functions that come with chip architecture revs. That being said, the Wii U is a newer architecture that has many of those built in mechanisms, just less of them and not as fast as Sony and MS. |
Scale down UE4 to work with the Wii U's specs... And what are you left with? Barely anything different from UE3.

Iwata says that Nintendo really need to remedy this idea. He also told investors that a number of third-party developers aren’t supporting the console, but he believes that once third-party developers start producing hit franchises on the Wii U then other developers will think again about developing for the platform. Iwata understands that this won’t happen overnight, but Nintendo is working on revitalising Wii U after the summer. http://mynintendonews.com/2013/04/27/iwata-is-aware-that-people-believe-that-wii-u-is-underpowered-and-says-this-is-a-misunderstanding/ |
Well that there was the problem with the Wii wasn't it? The hit 3rd party franchises were no where near commensurate with the level of hardware sales (e.e. Wii has fewer million selling 3rd games than PS3, and far fewer than 360. Now with Wii U selling more like early PS3 rather than early Wii the 3rd parties are possibly looking at how their games didn't sell on Wii and thinking with a lower growth rate in install base compared to Wii it's a really risky proposition. And the party games that did so well on Wii may not do as well on WiiU.
Still there's no reason not to port PS360 games to Wii U.

Of course it is underpowered, it barely beats 2005's Xbox 360 and 2006's PlayStation 3.
The Last of Us on PS3 will probably be more eye candy than anything on Wii U this year, this says a lot.
Satoru Iwata... You said you listen to the Developers and said the Wii U being underpowered is a Misunderstanding..? It's 100% Fact that it is Underpowered. This guy is Delusional and is at the top of Nintendo..? Yeah they gonna have problems. Look if Nintendo don't care, the fanboys don't care, then why anyone outside them worlds care? They are happy pet them be as l get my x86 GDDR5 8gb PlayStation 4 they can have their world I'll have mines.

Nintendo lives in their own bubble of self denial I think when it comes to third parties. It feels like he's been giving some variation of this same speech for like 7-8 years now. "We just need to create an environment where third parties will blah blah blah".
I don't even think deep down Iwata believes some of the stuff he says, he just says to put lipstick on the pig (that being the third situation).
