then the whole point of the console is gone and its basically a very underpowered 8th gen console

Then the Wii U could be in truble then, but I'm just guessing at this point. It could have an audiences of appeal, it just haven't grab my atendtion yet. I feel awakward playing on the gamepad and most of the time, I never use the screen so it sort of feel pointless already.

A large part of that is on Nintendo, they really haven't put out enough games that really take advantage of the Gamepad, which unusual for them because normally, a number of their launch titles are built around the hardware features of their systems.

Personally, the best game to me still is Zombi U for taking advantage of the gamepad features but I haven't gotten to play either Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate or Lego City Undercover yet. But the the Gamepad has a boat load of potential besides inventory screens and offscreen play, Nintendo or some other developer just needs to use them much like it took a minute for developers to use the second screen of the DS properly.

i prefer the Gamepad 10 times over just better graphics. Don't you think the same when Sony is trying to do "something" with the controller for the PS4?

It is opcional in a way. the devs aren't forced to put a single smile face on the gamepad screen if they don't want to.

Did we already have a thread with the same terrible premise? Maybe someone should make a thread about Nintendo releasing a 3DS with one screen too. The central feature of the Wii U is the Gamepad. When will this simple fact dawn on the people making these silly threads?

I take it you never used the GamePad yourself?

Once you have tried it out there is no looking back. You will want that extra screen. Touch screen, to be precise.

The thing is though that the GamePad already is optional in a lot of third party titles for the more old fashioned gamers. And the main menu can be navigated with a Wii remote.

(Not sure if you can navigate the main menu with a Pro controller, but it wouldn't surprise me if you can.)

It's a controller with a screen on it. What's not to like? Sure some games will only use the screen to display maps and inventory, but how's that bad? I don't see why that would detract from the experience. Seems like it could only add to it if anything.

I tend to agree, but it's too late to really change it now.

Even the "off-TV" play for me is kinda pointless, you have to be sitting in the same room, so why even bother playing on a low-res crappy little LCD display when you've waited 6 years for Nintendo to finally have an HD console and can play in HD resolution.

Unlike this imaginary world that Nintendo lives in, most people have multiple TVs in their homes too, so the whole "OMG! I want to watch my TV show, turn off the video games" is kind of a moot concern.

Most games just use the Wii U screen as a map/inventory screen, which is boring and dull. It was a horrible idea to base an entire console around this idea, and the sales figures reflect that.

The coolest part about the second screen for me is being able to browse Youtube videos and then wirelessly sync them to the TV, but that's something that gets used maybe once every two weeks or something for me.

They made the console basically for the Japanese market IMO, but the Japanese market doesn't care about home consoles period, so basically it's a system made for no market.

I can confirm that this is not true.

Completely dependent on the game.

For something like COD of course it should be optional, but something like Nintendoland would be impossible without it.

Oh, and awkwardness is something that's remedied over time. Just keep playing with it and eventually it'll feel natural to ya. :)
