PS3 is a big failure, Sony is going to fail if they continue making the same mistakes with PS4 and from what i've seen from Vita they will fail again.
I never started to be able to run out. I maintain that your amateur analysis is probably complete garbage

lols. I'm sorry but this comment is too funny. It all but replaced it? wowzers.... |
While I'm pretty sure you're well aware of what I meant and are just finding anything to argue about, allow me to spell it out for you.
When referring to products in the generic sense in popular media here in NA, such as "Coke" when referring to a soft drink or "Kleenex" for facial tissues, "Xbox" has become the term for video games that "Playstation" once enjoyed. That, along with hardware/software sales, points to the brand recognition of Xbox showing significant growth in NA whereas Playstation has shown decline. When you consider the utter dominance the Playstation brand had in the 6th generation, wowzers indeed...

Instead of belittling other people and implying you have some superior intellect, how about actually addressing their points... The man makes a good point; Microsoft has always and continues to do poorly in Japan. Nothing has changed there. Sony, on the other hand, was dominant for two generations in the US and lost a great deal to Microsoft this gen in both market share and brand power. And the US is a much bigger player regarding consoles than Japan. |
LOL good luck with that.
Scoobes said: They didn't have to though. If they didn't overengineer it so they had a ridiculous selling price at launch it almost certainly would have sold more and generated far more revenue and profit. Sony shot themselves in the foot yet they still managed to sell a decent number of consoles and stay relevant in the market. |
And they had to sacrifice billions of dollars for that to happen.
The PS3 couldn't have sold a decent amount or remained as relevant without massive price cuts. The 360 was offering similar graphics and most of the same games, that forced Sony to sacrfice more money to get attention.

I don't mind either way, but it is what it is. Both sides will be bothered with the realities. Also, just cutting the price wouldn't have been enough, given the PS3 is already more expensive. If you're getting outsold by a higher priced, competing device, it's probably more desired than your product. That certainly says something about the PS3, regardless of its financial woes. |
The $300 model Xbox is more expensive than a PS3 that includes games. The 4GB model Xbox is cheaper but includes nothing. Obivously more price cuts could have gave a boost to 360 sales and slow the gap from closing. Instead MS did nothing and sales are still strong.

The 360 is not nearly as dominate as the ps2 was in US. On top of that people dont say coke when referring to soft dring they say soda or pop. Hicks from Texas call it a coke. And no... people dont say "360" when referring to gaming. They are literally talking about a 360
Blu-Ray is the standard and only HD movie format today and will be for many many more years. *Goes to research DVD and Blu-Ray sales* From what I can find, Blu-Ray sales are increasing while DVD sales are declining. The last figure I found put Blu-Ray sales for 2011 at $2billion while DVD at $6billion and Digital Downloading is at about $1billion. As more people have HDTVs and as more people get Blu-Ray players into their homes(like the Xbox 720) Blu-Ray sales will eventually eclipse DVD to bcome the lead format. Of course, digital sales are also increasing and those will one day overtake Blu-Ray, but they will never replace it. Physical media is here to stay and it will for be for at least a few more decades.
|
That's bolded part is accurate. But you're ignoring sales in general of physical movie have declined significantly. Since 2006 piracy has gone up, streaming is growing, and you can now rent movies from machines at most gas stations.
Physical media will still be around for a long time. But its not nearly as profitable as DVDs were and never will be. The problem isn't getting Bluray players in homes. The problem is many people aren't buying movies anymore.

Both Microsoft and Sony are focusing on making their consoles profitable in these late years. Sure, MS could have really undercut the PS3 if they wanted to, but but it doesn't make business sense. Sony actually increased the entry price of the PS3 from $249.99 to $269.99 with the Super Slim. So no, they didn't "buy second place". They just did everything in their power to make sure the platform they invested billions of dollars in has a healthy marketshare and 3rd party support. They succeeded. It was all smooth sailing for Sony after the PS3 Slim launch in 2009. If I understand correctly, that's when it started being profitable. |
My point is MS didn't really care if PS3 closed the gap with the 360.
Sony increased the price of their console by $30 recently. But they sacrificed billions of dollars with massive price cuts year after year. So yeah, I still feel they bought second place.
