so you ran out of arguments.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

PS3 is a big failure, Sony is going to fail if they continue making the same mistakes with PS4 and from what i've seen from Vita they will fail again.

I never started to be able to run out. I maintain that your amateur analysis is probably complete garbage

It's hilarious when people compare the advantage the 360 has in the US to the disadvantage the 360 has in Japan.

In Japan the 360 faces a huge cultural disadvantage right off the bat. In the US the 360 is not even the #1 console, a Japanese console is. Last gen the Xbox sold even less in Japan than the 360. Last gen you'd have to combine the GCN and Xbox US numbers together and then double them to reach what the PS2 did in the US. Yeah, they are entirely the same thing LOL.

Also, MS's goal was to stop Sony from taking over the living room with the Playstation. They have succeeded.

nothing in this blabbling nonsense is there a lol worthy comment

Instead of belittling other people and implying you have some superior intellect, how about actually addressing their points...

The man makes a good point; Microsoft has always and continues to do poorly in Japan. Nothing has changed there. Sony, on the other hand, was dominant for two generations in the US and lost a great deal to Microsoft this gen in both market share and brand power. And the US is a much bigger player regarding consoles than Japan.

Nawww, especially when it comes to jallard. It really isnt a good point. Its a miserable point. There is no reason to write off Japan in a global sales comeptition. It's a way to spin coming in last. That is all it is

Regardless of what J Allard's intent may have been, his point is hardly miserable. Microsoft has a commanding lead over Sony in the US and the Xbox brand has all but replaced the Playstation brand as the popular name for video games in this region. Nobody is saying that Sony's console doesn't have a stronger presence globally, just that comparing Xbox's advantage in NA to its disadvantage in Japan is not of equal standing. Do you think that Microsoft would trade or even compromise what it currently enjoys in NA for a presence in Japan? I don't think they would.

lols. I'm sorry but this comment is too funny. It all but replaced it? wowzers....

While I'm pretty sure you're well aware of what I meant and are just finding anything to argue about, allow me to spell it out for you.

When referring to products in the generic sense in popular media here in NA, such as "Coke" when referring to a soft drink or "Kleenex" for facial tissues, "Xbox" has become the term for video games that "Playstation" once enjoyed. That, along with hardware/software sales, points to the brand recognition of Xbox showing significant growth in NA whereas Playstation has shown decline. When you consider the utter dominance the Playstation brand had in the 6th generation, wowzers indeed...

They didn't have to though. If they didn't overengineer it so they had a ridiculous selling price at launch it almost certainly would have sold more and generated far more revenue and profit. Sony shot themselves in the foot yet they still managed to sell a decent number of consoles and stay relevant in the market.

And they had to sacrifice billions of dollars for that to happen.

The PS3 couldn't have sold a decent amount or remained as relevant without massive price cuts. The 360 was offering similar graphics and most of the same games, that forced Sony to sacrfice more money to get attention.

The ps3 was a failure. This is already known. Will probably sell more than the 360 which the sony fans claim is a victory, but they fail to realise that the ps3 cost sony billions and no profit, which makes it the ultimate failure.

Glass half empty perspective. On the other foot, to some, it must ache, just a tad, knowing that Sony's worst console will still outsell Microsoft's best.

Anyway, in regards to financials, no doubt the PS3 is a serious thorn in Sony's side. However, their current future looks far brighter than the pre-release days of the system, and with mistakes should come learning + improvment. So far, they're on the right track.

I don't think it aches nearly as much knowing Sony had to sacrifice billions of dollars just so it could out perform the 360. Sony essentially bought second place but won't taste it until next gen platforms are out. Now that is pitiful given the success of PS2.

If MS really cared for the 360 to stay ahead of PS3 they would have cut the price years ago.

I don't mind either way, but it is what it is. Both sides will be bothered with the realities. Also, just cutting the price wouldn't have been enough, given the PS3 is already more expensive. If you're getting outsold by a higher priced, competing device, it's probably more desired than your product. That certainly says something about the PS3, regardless of its financial woes.

The $300 model Xbox is more expensive than a PS3 that includes games. The 4GB model Xbox is cheaper but includes nothing. Obivously more price cuts could have gave a boost to 360 sales and slow the gap from closing. Instead MS did nothing and sales are still strong.

The 360 is not nearly as dominate as the ps2 was in US. On top of that people dont say coke when referring to soft dring they say soda or pop. Hicks from Texas call it a coke. And no... people dont say "360" when referring to gaming. They are literally talking about a 360

Without the PS3, Sony wouldnt have won the High definition optical disc format war. Now they make money off every Blu-Ray disk sold thanks to PS3.

Did they anticipate Bluray would be as big as DVD? Because that isn't gonna happen. Physical movie sales have declined significantly since 2006.

They won a war much of market has moved away from. Hence, much of money went as well.

Blu-Ray is the standard and only HD movie format today and will be for many many more years. *Goes to research DVD and Blu-Ray sales*

From what I can find, Blu-Ray sales are increasing while DVD sales are declining. The last figure I found put Blu-Ray sales for 2011 at $2billion while DVD at $6billion and Digital Downloading is at about $1billion. As more people have HDTVs and as more people get Blu-Ray players into their homes(like the Xbox 720) Blu-Ray sales will eventually eclipse DVD to bcome the lead format. Of course, digital sales are also increasing and those will one day overtake Blu-Ray, but they will never replace it. Physical media is here to stay and it will for be for at least a few more decades.

That's bolded part is accurate. But you're ignoring sales in general of physical movie have declined significantly. Since 2006 piracy has gone up, streaming is growing, and you can now rent movies from machines at most gas stations.

Physical media will still be around for a long time. But its not nearly as profitable as DVDs were and never will be. The problem isn't getting Bluray players in homes. The problem is many people aren't buying movies anymore.

Both Microsoft and Sony are focusing on making their consoles profitable in these late years. Sure, MS could have really undercut the PS3 if they wanted to, but but it doesn't make business sense. Sony actually increased the entry price of the PS3 from $249.99 to $269.99 with the Super Slim. So no, they didn't "buy second place". They just did everything in their power to make sure the platform they invested billions of dollars in has a healthy marketshare and 3rd party support. They succeeded. It was all smooth sailing for Sony after the PS3 Slim launch in 2009. If I understand correctly, that's when it started being profitable.

My point is MS didn't really care if PS3 closed the gap with the 360.

Sony increased the price of their console by $30 recently. But they sacrificed billions of dollars with massive price cuts year after year. So yeah, I still feel they bought second place.
