Nope.

The 3DS isnt the issue, its the publisher/developer (Nintendo in other words) who is pretty much not focusing on the Wii-U (lack of announcements/discussions) along with the lack of third party support + the fierce competition in terms of software + bundles/deals.

the reasons the WiiU isnt selling are many. too much to even post now. but i believe that the 3DS is only making things worse. honestly its like a portable WiiU at the moment.

All it needs is Retro Studios (MK7 doesn't count.)

That's quite literally it.

if only it were that simple

Honestly that is like saying Soul Sacrifice or one monster hunter game is gonna save the Vita. Its gonna take more than one game to save the Wii-U from crashing and burning completely.

I meant from 3DS. No retro on 3DS. Mario Kart co-dev doesn't count.

the good thing about Nintendo is, that they always deliver these special first party games.

To me its two different markets.

I don't think they provide the same experience in most cases. However, the new Zelda title has really changed my thoughts on a portable console.

but is it really two different markets? you have the 2d mario's, the zelda's, the mario karts and the 3d mario's as the main system sellers. the fans of these games will at look at these two consoles and chose on for their gaming needs. since the 3ds has the same games, is cheaper and has much more games, its only natural for anybody who wants a new nintendo console to pick one up over the WiiU

While *some* of the games are similar, they are not identical. NSMB NSMBWii NSMB2 and NSMBU are not the same game. Portables have or are selling better solely due to the number of available customers in the userbase.

3DS does not have "same" games and both have games unique to its respective experience.

I seriously hope they made the Direct 3DS specific so that they can drop the Wii U bomb at E3 not cause they don't have anything new.

Well in a way he is right, but mainly because 3DS keeps getting huge game announcements. It makes the system look 100x more attractive on software alone.

At the start of the live of 3DS, i could never of envisioned so many great games coming. So I am hoping Nintendo apply a similar philosophy to Wii U, except for what they done so far is release the same type of game so close to each other, i.e. 2D Mario. Wii U should have launched with a 3D Mario, then end of the year come out as a full complete game with mario and luigi, instead of a downloadable addon cause it's the year of luigi.

And I agree.

NSMB2 cut into NSMBU as did OoT3D to Shyward Sword. (Both 3DS titles released months before.)

3DS has all the "Nintendo experience" you possibly need.

and its about to get even more, anyone who wants the nintendo experience should just buy a 3DS. 3d mario, 2d mario, 3d zelda, 2.5D zelda, mario kart, pokemon, mario party, luigi's mansion, that mario RPG, fire emblem and monster hunter. 3ds is just a beast and its victim is the WiiU

I totally agree with this post

I love my 3DS , but its console over handheld for me any day of the week. When Wii U has all the blockbuster games announced, all in glorious HD,with bigger worlds and environments 3DS couldnt replicate, then it would show this theory to be a little premature. I mean as good a Mario 3D land is, it wont hold a candle to the next 3D Mario which will be on Wii U.As 3DS has shown, games sell systems and right now Wii U doesnt have a ton of them.
I am lucky however, i get the best of both worlds ;)

i honestly didnt mean they were identical and i didnt meant to bash the games. i meant that they are very much alike and have the same fanbase. my post wasnt an attack but it was to show that the tittles that are coming out are very much alike. even if the content is different its still a new super mario bros. one on the 3ds and one on the WiiU. the marketing team did send that message twice, that you got this new awesome mario game on this awesome console, so people went out, bought the 3ds and bought mario. then the WiiU came out, and the marketing team said the same thing, new awesome mario game on this awesome console. but the second time people will just say "well i just got my super mario bro's on my 3ds" and there is the problem

That didnt save the Virtual Boy now did it? Or allow Nintendo to win against the competition who had the PS1 and PS2.

They'll need something to attract casuals like they did with the Wii, however - considering its casuals - the market is way different from what it was when the Wii came out. I dont think casuals will be much interested with the Wii-U as with the Wii. There's a few factors preventing another Wii type success from happening although it can still happen if they make the right decisions which all add up.

The main things that are preventing that from happening are

-The cost of the system is a bit too high for casuals compared to the Wii's original price (which was $249.99) and what it is now.
-Competitors re-focusing on the motion controls (i.e. PSMove (l0l) and Kinect).
-Competitors having cheaper systems which can run almost the same games (i.e. eliminating the need to buy multiplats on the Wii-U).
-Competitors having better bundles and a bigger variety of SKUs for the systems.
-Competitors having more fleshed out software library with both old software and new upcoming software.
-Smartphones and Tablets attracting casuals far more than actual video game systems.
-Nintendo's failure to focus on the Wii-U in its advertising and direct shows.

they kicked Yokoi (one of the most impoartent if not THE most important man in the history of Nintendo besides Miyamoto) for it's failure. (kindy cruel to be honest, but that's buisness i guess)

And the Virtual Boy wasn't even meant to be a main system, it was meant to keep customers cause of ps 1 and saturn cause the n64 still needed more time. It was also uncomfortable, unpractical, your head/eyes did hurt after using it quite a while. It was the consumer unfriendliest System Nintendo ever made and probably will make in the future.

And the Virtual Boy also didn't have any must have nintendo first party title. Also Virtual Boy didn't evenr each the on million mark.
