Mariokart is heavily bundled. I haven't seen the sales but they I am sure because of bundles it should be around 10M+ copies. If Nintendo didnt bundle mariokart it probably would've done half that or less. That game sold like hotcakes during the Wii craze.

MKWii already sold 24M (or was is 22?) as standalone before it was finally bundled with the console.

It came as a bundled package with the wheel. It's been selling every year since Mario Kart Wii launched prettymuch.

Yeah we all 30+ million people bought Mario kart only so we could get a cheap ass plastic wheel...

Please get over yourself.... no wonder I've almost stopped coming to this site...

If it isn't turnbased it isn't worth playing   (mostly)

And shepherds we shall be,

For Thee, my Lord, for Thee. Power hath descended forth from Thy hand, That our feet may swiftly carry out Thy command. So we shall flow a river forth to Thee And teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritūs Sancti. -----The Boondock Saints

well they do say some good points, but after all its all their opinions. they are talking about how nintendo is pushing them away, and they have legitimate points but they arent the same as mine so i cant really say i agree with them. but a lot of what they said does make sense and their point of views are understandable

A good editorial never has to stand behind the "its all their opinions" defense.

i honestly dont think they need to. i can understand where the nintendo fans are coming from on this editorial, they love nintendo and they love the games nintendo is giving them and they love the way they release the games and make them. so when two people come in say nintendo needs to shake things up of course they wont agree with them.

but the thing is, a lot of people do feel the same way as they do or did. and the people who did feel the same way moved on. and these two people might move on. its not like they are attacking nintendo or saying they suck. they are basically saying that nintendo makes awesome games. one is saying they want new experiences, they want very different games but dont mind of they put luigi or mario as the main character. the other is saying that no, he does want luigi or mario on those new experiences. he wants nintendo to make new games like when they made pikmin about 10 years ago. they want them to do that because they know they can make great new games and they know they would be good. i really cant understand the people in this thread being super defensive (not you). they do make a ligitimate case

Nintendo succeeds in bringing new elements to already existing IPs - there isnt anything wrong with that however like Valve who is much pretty much frozen solid in terms of software production - Nintendo hasnt really created a new AAA quality like IP - and when I mean AAA quality I mean like popular games like Mario/Zelda/Pokemon.

Werent most of the new IPs simply casual grabbers like Wii Sports/Brain Age or something minor on the portables?

No they fucking were not.

Many a time did I bust out my Balance Board for Rock 'n' Roll Climber - a game so far beyond AAA that its actual rank looks like the phoneticised screams of "hardcore" gamers falling limp to its brutal physical and mental demands.

Never heard of it.

Go and stand in the corner, you despicable casual.

dont call basil despicable!! he is one of the most awesome users on this site! apologize this instant young man!

Never heard of him.

guess you are allergic to awesome then?

I fail to see how their competition is any better than Nintendo in this regard !
Uncharted: 4 games in 5 years
God of War: 6 games in 8 years with various collections and bundles
Little Big Planet: 4 games in 4 years
Forza: 5 games in 7 years
Halo: 5 mainline games in 11 years, with 2 spin offs
Now compare that to Nintendo´s franchises...
But obviously only Nintendo is called out...oh well, moving on !

New IP's, new ones that are different in style and set new standards. Sony has made more new IP's than Microsoft and Sony from first party.

I agree with them. I don't want umpteenth mario platformer, if they would be giving something new I might be interested. And don't bring up wii sports, that is something like most kinect games. Don't care about that kind of stuff.

No offense, but the Neilsens would've reported far more activity from Wii Users if 30 M+ actual gamers were using the product. There is a such thing as an empty sale. The gimmick is used, people move on to bigger and better things (especially in America). Tell me...how does a console that sells double what the competition sells have less use compared to the competition? Explain that to me.

Yes, and they use these established IPs (Killzone 4 and Infamous 3 for Ps 4, Sly 4 for PS3 ) while introducing new ones .....like Nintendo !Pandora´s Tower, Xenoblade, The Last Story, Kid Icarus, along side the 3DS eShop games (Dillons Rolling Western, Sakura Samurai, Ketzal´s Corridors, Crashmo etc.) last year, and for this year, we already know that they will bring the wonderful 101 not to mention that they revive old series that didn´t have entries in a long time (Pikmin3, Luigi´s Mansion 2, Pilotwings Resort) !

After watching the video.. It must be hard for them to keep seeing those new zeldas and marios cause it reminds them that 25 years after the first games.. they are still a virgin...

As I said before, their IPs are selling less these days.

Actually, for the most party their franchises have been selling more. Over the last 6 years Nintendo has seen more success than at any point in the past in terms of how high their franchises have been selling.

IPs whose sales are lower now than the previous gen:

Brain Age

Nintendogs

NSMB

Mario Kart

Luigi's Mansion

Paper Mario

Mario Tennis

Nope, if you compare those IPs to the same point in the last genwratioj you'll see most are higher now. If you compare last generation to the one prior, last generation vastly exceeded.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

Good god....I just said they've made more new IP's. Gamespot actually did a count of how many first party games Sony had made this gen that were new IP's (not established) and the list by now is well over that now.

Xenoblade is just an offshoot of Xenosaga which was an already established franchise and had previously been on the DS. Its like saying Demon Souls is a completely different game from Darksouls.Nintendo tends to buy companies and have them make games they would dare not make themselves. Kid Icarus is not a new IP's its re-establishing a third string Nintendo character that Nintendo had in the back since the 80's. The last story is second party, not first party it was co-published. That game is a similar occurance to Lost Odyssey, because you know Mistwalker is the maker and Nintendo (like Microsoft) got them to give support to the console via co-publishing. Microsoft actually owns the IP to the Lost Odyssey unlike Nintendo, who didnt even have a hand in the development outside of financials. Pilotwings, Luigi's Mansion and Pilotwings Resort are also not new IP's. As I said its old games with a slightly different gameplay style.
