Forums - Nintendo - Reggie:Wii U Releases will "Dramatically Increase"

Doesn't take much to see a dramatic increase when the baseline is close to 0 first-party games in a while.

We all know that Mario Kart and the like is coming though, but I would hope they have a price cut to go along with the games too.

Many retailers anyways already lowered the WiiU price on their own, you can get the basic WiiU at amazon.de for 198 Euro, at Releas the basic WiiU was at 299Euro. Even if Nintendo cuts the price official you sure not get the WiiU lower than 199.

I think 299.99 is a good price for this Christmas. It comes with 8gb of storage and the wiiu gamepad. I think it compares favorably to an Xbox 360 4gb Kinect Bundle in terms of a hardware purchase. Plus it's a system with a future rather than a past.

Plus there will be black friday/holiday deals and bundles, I woulndt be surprised if u could get a 32gb with NSMBU bundle for $300 or basic bundle with no games for $200

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

What I really can't understand for the life of me is what Nintendo was doing that whole year before Wii U launched where they completely stopped supporting Wii? You'd think they would have been using all that time to develop plenty of great first party Wii U games that could keep it going its first 6 months or so. But no, we still have ended up with a total drought during that time. Basically since Skyward Sword Nintendo has only released one other high profile home console title, and that's NSMB U. And that's a fine game and all, but it's certainly not revolutionary and something that used up all that game developing time. So what were they doing the last year and a half or so? Twiddling their thumbs? I know my Wii U will eventually be a worthwhile purchase, I mean just look at the 3DS now, but Nintendo has pretty much put the nail in the coffin for me supporting their systems at launch. I mean there's just no point.

From 1st parties we could see

June-Game & Wario

July-Wii Fit U

August-Pikmin 3

September-Wind Waker

October-Yarn Yoshi

November-3D Mario

December-Mario Kart

Thats not including any unnanounced games or any from 3rd parties

Wii Fit U wasn't mentioned in the latest Nintendo Direct as far as I know, so I guess it's not coming out in July.

Nintendo really must have been anticipating better third party support (hence why they left this portion after release so wide open). There's really no way they couldn't have seen this coming otherwise.

Looks like they had an unexpected drop in support (by companies such as EA) who Nintendo had planned on releasing titles during this period.

Aliens, Rayman, Metro, Game & Wario, Pikmin, Wonderful 101, Wii Fit U were all planned for the first half of this year add that to Monster Hunter, Lego City, NFS, Injustice, Dues Ex, RE Revelations and u have a solid stream of software Jan-June. Then in the 2nd half u have Splinter Cell, Wind Waker, Watch Dogs, AC 4, Batman, and very likely COD, Destiny, 3D Mario, Mario Kart which is a good first year lineup, too bad so many games got cancelled or delayed.

The system is a complete disaster and I don't even see Mario Kart salvaging this trainwreck.

They need a new type of hit equivalent to Wii Sports, but they don't have the vision to create anything like that, they're just mired in making sequels to everything now (Wii Party 2, Wii Fit 3, etc.) and making as many Mario themed games as humanly possible. Third party support is atrocious. Even the N64 still got things like Madden and FIFA.

Thanks for unveiling Reggie's trick here, Pezus. All he really means is that it'll go from 0 (or maybe even negative, seeing as how everything is canceled.) releases to 1. Conspiracy!

Nintendo did for the first time not set an official price in Europe. This means that retailers can freely decide the price of the console. Therefore Nintendo can't make an official price cut in Europe. The inofficial price cut already happened several months ago as you already mentioned.
At the same time that means that should the demand rise during the holidays, the retailers can and will raise the price again. So every European gamer who wants to get a Wii U this year should buy one now.

Current cheapest price for the Basic model: 193€ (no shipping costs)
Cheapest price for the Premium SKU: 275€ (shipping costs included)

Remember the last time Reggie used the word "dramatically".

Was that when they announced the 3DS price cut a few weeks/months after he said that o.O?

Nah, it's from when he said third partygames look dramatically better on WiiU.
