The series could have... *ahem*... evolved from there, but instead it transformed into something else. I love the end result nonetheless though. All games in the series (not counting ODST) are worth at least 8/10.

Halo: Combat Evolved.

In my opinion not only the best of the series, but the best of the genre. Although Half-Life 2 is right there with it.

I absolutely loved Halo 3, it was my first Halo and I thought it were pretty much perfect. Halo 2 is my least favourite and a special mention to Halo Wars for being really fun and really enjoyable :)

Had so much fun with the multiplayer in Halo 3.

Halo 2 or Halo 3 for me.

I guess I will stay with Halo 3.

OT: Halo 2. (Really, all of them except ODST.)

Combat evolved of course. It was the only halo game to be great all around in terms of design, gameplay, multi-player, story, and sound. I don't hold it against the game that it acted as a precursor to most of what is wrong with fps games now.
