Forums - Gaming - Cliff Bleszinski on always-online: "Deal with it"

i usually like cliffy but for this fuck him.

I'm not buying any product where i can instantly have it taken away from me without compensation.

don't think that can happen?  oh look at whats on the front page right now...  Nintendo shutting down Wii channels and online services

always online is fine for a service (like netflix) where i pay monthly access subscription fee.  i'm not paying license fees prices to own a product and not actually have the right to own the product.  fuck that. fuck cliffy.  fuck any company that tries that bullshit.

Around the Network

The only thing I found out from this debacle is Sony fans have awful internet connections.

Moderated,

If hacking a system to play pirated games is only done by the "hardcore gaming enthusiasts, and not by the mainstream gamers, and only make up a limited number of potential lost sales", then why enforce being always online at all??
Not disagreeing with the blog, but clearly a contradiction there.

stupid article

Hey cliffy nobody has to buy said consoles if they don't want to........Deal With it.

Around the Network

I wouldn't mind always online but there are times where my internet will go out for like 10-30 minutes for no reason I hate optimum :(

Or buy a console where you don't have to deal with it

Ask me about being an elitist jerk

Time for hype

I wouldn't mind having a Always-Online console since my Xbox, Ps3, and PC are always connected to the Internet. But telling me to Deal With it? WTF? Who are you to tell me to deal with it, I'm a consumer I don't need to accommodate Microsofts next Xbox it's the other way around. He brought it on himself, no one else to blame but himself.

And after 10 or 20 years when MS shuts down 720 always online servers what then? Do not get to play the console anymore ever again? I still play 20 year old games. I play a lot of 10 year old games.

And this is why I love Cliff Bleszinski. Highly intelligent and tells it how it is. He doesn't BS like many people do in an interview.

And what exactly did he say that was intelligent?

"I’d rather live in a world where someone can slip up, say something that the world doesn’t agree with, and not have the collective internet lynch mob up their ass."

While personally I agree with Microsoft firing or forcing Adam Orth to resign,  I agree with many statements that Cliff makes in this and many of his other interviews.  People flip out on the internet because they can without any consequence.  One too many times do we see the internet explode, whine, and complain over nothing and Adam Orth is not the first instance.  Vgchartz alone has these things happen every single day.

The internet is a powerful tool but it can also be powerful in the wrong ways.  When people figured out they can give their opinions to complete strangers without the same consequences of real life is when we learned a lot of people's opinions are garbage in the first place.  People throw logic out the window and ignore studies just to whine.  Not saying this is the case for Adam Orth but it has happened in other situations.

I also don't agree with always online but I did not par take in raging on the internet and saying how this Adam Orth guy is that I don't even know is horrible person or is complete trash.  Just look at people's avatars and signature on this site making a meme out of this guy.  In reality he has an opinion just like me or you but the difference is his opinion turned into hell and is now all over the internet because he is more of public figure.  I'm sure you have said dumb things too yet you are not being made fun of constantly for it.  Cliff also mentioned something of that nature.

Adam Orth's comments while out of line the gamers comments has been just as out of line as him.  Everybody makes mistakes.

Disagree completely. If it was my company and my product, and someone litteraly told my customers to 'deal with it' when they are voicing concerns, I'd fire the guy on the spot. That is not how you do PR, and anyone with at least some fraction of competence should know that.

Also, Cliffy B is 100% wrong in defending always online, but it is to be expected. He is part of the game industry hivemind after all.

I stated that i agree with MSFT firing or forcing him to resign.  I dont agree with people on the internet acting like immature little kids over the matter.  People need to relax a little.
