Forums - Microsoft - UPDATE! vgleaks: Microsoft Xbox Roadmap (2013) - possible bc, online not required, used games allowed

So what happened to that MS Guy on twitter? did he get rehired ? , why did he make a fuss over nothing?

If that is true, MS have won next gen. Nothing more to say.

I would hope this is true, or at least the reality is closer to this than what was previously posted. Fanboy bs aside, I believe all of the big 3 should bring their "A" game - that way we will all benefit, even non Microsoft enthusiasts like myself.

Playstation = The Beast from the East

Sony + Nintendo = WIN! PS3 + PSV + PS4 + Wii U + 3DS

but I wonder how many people would buy a Durango and a BC box...

you should think the other way around.. I think the new360 will be placed as THE media box out there even outselling durango.. but when people want more they'll get a durango with it cause it works so nicely with the new360.. I even wouldn't be surprised if the new360 would get yearly revisions and a new game device every 6 to 8 years..

Face the future.. Gamecenter ID: nikkom_nl (oh no he didn't!!)

show us the console and games it will have already Microsoft,
Cuze I pretty much lost interest in your console already!

Something smells really fishy.

Not sure yet what's up. I want this rumor to be true but it is so fake looking.

What was your opinion to the bad rumors?

Well up until Adam Orth's twitter stuff every single rumor was confirming always online drm, no used games, bad bad bad etc. Lots and lots of these rumors coming from people with good track records, even Microsoft fans.

Then very quickly afterwards we have Paul Thurrott breaking things up saying pretty much the same things as this article. His leak is also very positive. However he did reconfirm always online DRM again but he mentioned it as a good thing.

Something is up beyond just "here's a new leak."

I wonder how much money they would actually save by excluding it from Durango. It's not like the Xbox360 used any super customized parts like the CELL processor of the PS3 (at least none that I am aware of), so I think it certainly would be possible to have the BC with the rumored specs, so no additional cost for BC.

Seems like they just want to squeeze as much money out as possible (understandable from their point of view), but I wonder how many people would buy a Durango and a BC box...

You mean emulation?

Yeah, pretty much software emulation. Wasn't the factor 10 always thrown around for software emulation? I'm pretty sure the Durango will end up 10x stronger than the Xbox360 and with the emulation handeled by a professional team with all the needed info I'm pretty sure the Durango could have a near-perfect software-based BC if Microsoft wanted it. But obviously making gamers who want it pay twice will turn out more profitable for Microsoft^^

No emulation requires especially cpu-power and rumor has it that they use jaguar like Sony. The cpu is not very fast in this. NextBox and Sony have way more power but also especially because of gpu and I don't know how much you can offload emulation-tasks to gpgpu. And even if you could they also have to use the gpu to make 3d-stuff run on NextBox. I don't say it's totally impossible but seems very hard to do. Just look at Dolphin, the gamecube and Wii emulator, what the requirements are and now think of how much more power 360 has.

To bolded: Sony wants you to pay for bc, too. They do with PS3 and will with PS4 (with what we have still to be seen performance with Gaikai).

True, but since this comment of mine was about the Durango leak I didn't mention the PS4. Trust me, I did not intend to imply any superiority of the PS4 over Durango^^

About the other part of your comment: Yeah, this sounds pretty logical. Emulation is indeed very CPU-weighted, which is a problem. But the results of an emulator programmed by a specialized dev team with access to all the needed information and tools which only needs to develop for a single set of specs would be truly interesting to see :D

Does anyone remember the 56-pages long leak from last year which also was quite dated? IIRC even in this document they were talking about two different versions of new xboxes - seems MS had this strategy long before the first rumors appeared. I think to MS everything works as they planned since a long time.

Oh reaaaaaally!!!!!

It looks the competition is back on

So let me get this straight:

If you are an XBox360 owner, you probably get royally srewed by Microsoft, once again? It is very suspicious that all that tv stuff suddenly seems to go into a dedicated "Small Xbox" (and it can be expected this miracle box comes with dedicated entertainment software) . So can the old XBox360 also work as "Small Box"? Or do XBox360 users HAVE to get the "Small Box" for the entertainment pack?
