Forums - General - I can't control my thoughts anymore.

When I was younger I had bouts of similar symptoms. Seems like a mild obsessive-compulsive disorder coupled with anxiety too. Yeah, it sucks... but it passes in the end. Everything passes. I tried to recall that specially during a bout of hypochondria and yet another imaginary sickness.

Although if it seems really serious, maybe you should seek help.

Don't listen to the fools suggesting weed and/or Alcohol. Marijuana can actually trigger anxiety and although alcohol may be okay in moderation, too much and you'll be worse off the day after than the actual symptoms you were trying to stem.

Step back from the thoughts. Try to say So what instead of what if. Look at the basics. Diet, Sleep/wake routine and excercise. Eating breakfast , lunch and dinner at regular time patterns will also help you sleep . Try to stay away from snacking to much. Go for a jog, or take up a sport. Excersise releases endorphines which is the body's natural 'feel good' substance. Many studies support that people who are actively engaged in regular excercise are less pron to anxiety and/or depression..

Hope you take my advice on board and good luck. You should also try to talk to a close relative about your anxiety , talking really does help. A problem shared and all that.

First of all, sorry if my english is bad. Second, you need a diagnosis which can be done by a psychiatrist or a psychologist. They are not the same: a psychiatrist is basically a medic which deals with mental disorders while a psychologist is not a medic but an expert in the study of the mind, however both are qualified to perform a diagnosis. Usually a psychiatrist will give you meds and a psychologist will give you therapy: both or just one of the two may be needed depended on the diagnosis.

If you want some help right now I suggest you to look for help in forums about social anxiety because people in this forum are experts in videogames and may have not experience in this kind of stuff.

Finally I suggest you to read carefully this two articles in the wikipedia, which can help you to get more information, the first one is about OCD and the second one about tourette, Based on the info you provide I think you may have one of those or the two (I was diagnosed the two on my childhood):

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obsessive%E2%80%93compulsive_disorder
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tourette_syndrome

As a personal advice, don't pay attention to people who belittles your actual condition, says it's normal or propose illegal drugs or alternative medicine. Look for profesional advice!. I know this kind of stuff can cause a lot of suffering from my personal experience.

Greetings

As a 5th year medical student (Who is actually studying fot his Psychiatry test of tomorrow) This advice is spot on! The Anxiety Disorders that this person suggest are a real posibility. You should really see a Psychiatrist and/or Psychologist now, they can really offer you a correct diagnosis of your disorder and will help you get well.

Do it as soon as you can please!

Again, please go to a Psychiatry/Psychologist,This is another lecture which could give you an insight of the Anxiety Disorders (sorry ir its a little specialized). http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/286227-overview

Just want to say it's good you are reaching out. This forum might not be the best place for help but it's a good place to start.

some thoughts-

99% of the mental ailments found in western cultures are the result of overly active minds and lack of physical activity. I highly recommend finding some kind of Tai Chi, yoga, or zen type of meditative practice and make it a regular part of your life. Also, more vigorous forms of exercise can be helpful in promoting a more regulated and overall healthier system (less prone to mood swings). They can also offertemporary releif (hard to think and run at the same time for example) and helps purge poisons from your body.

If you must take meds you need your's changed ASAP, either they are the wrong ones for you or the amounts you are taking are insufficient. you should bring this to your doctor's attention NOW!

don't smoke pot- it is a stimulant and causes an increased heart rate and blood pressure, and therefore is likely to increase symptoms of anxiety.

do not use alcohol- it is a depressant and also significantly dehydrates you, it will deplete your system and leave you feeling depressed for sure.

experiment with diet- overly processed foods, food allergies, consuming too much food, etc can all amplify the symptoms your having, and in some cases are the cause.

try to identify what triggers, if any, instigate your feelings of anxiety/depression. Then reprogram yourself to respond differently to those specific things and/or remove them from your life. This takes lots of practice but can be very effective.

There are lot's of other good recommendations made here in this thread and countless books and experts who will tell you they have the answer. Truth is you must find the answer, or combination of answers, that work for you. Keep trying and you will eventually find those things.

Best of luck to you

The issues you have encountered with breathing, blinking, cracking of the fingers, sniffing, moving your neck and clearing of the throat sound extremely characteristic of Tourette's Syndrome, which I have. And it also sounds like you might have OCD. If these things are really bothering you then you need to contact your doctor. If you do have Tourette's, which by the sound of it I think you do, then there is medication that can help.

However, Tourette's is usually worst duirng the teen years, and progressively declines in intensity with age. Has this been an issue for many years, or has it just come up recently? Either way, if you have not yet done so already, make an appointment with your doctor. They can be very helpful.

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash

So did you set up an appointment with a doctor yet?

As an actual doctor I can say that some of the "self-help" advice in this thread are good (like distraction, physical excercise, meditation and even trying to get advice and encouragement from a good internet forum for the social anxiety and low self-esteem part ain't a bad idea), but you are in such a bad shape right now that you need to meet a psychatrist as soon as possible and start from there.

Obviously stay away from alcohol and non-prescribed drugs.

NICE TRY! You almost got me... ( dammit I can't stop blinking!) HA-HA...ha...
