Forums - Sales - Is $500 too much?

$500 for a game system is...

OK. 66 13.31%

I will pay anything for Halo! 11 2.22%

I will pay anything for Sony! 59 11.90%

OK for launch, but it better come down quick! 97 19.56%

Too Much!! 263 53.02%

Total:496

For me $500 is pretty cheap, PS4 seems well on par with PC and a gaming PC is well over $500 so yeah I will get a PS4 at that price as for 720... Well... Lets just hope the rumors are not true... For there sake... >.> I still think PS4 will have to sets a $400+ model with 500gb and $500+ model with 1tb.

$500 is way too much for me. The highest I will even consider is about $350. Even that is pushing it.

To me, $500 is a lot of money whichever way you look at it. However, I do think that you're getting value for what you pay for. A game console is one of the few items on the market where you're paying less than what it costs the manufacturer to make the item. So from a pure business standpoint you're getting back more than what you pay for. To me, that's value. I would much rather pay $500 for a game console which I know I'll use anywhere from 10-20 hours a week for 5-6 years than say pay $300 for a pair of Air Jordan's that I know costs Nike $10 to make and I know for certain won't last me 5-6 years.

Good post. I'm pretty much the same. The amount of time being spent on the console justifies the price. Here in Australia, movie tickets are about $20 each for only 2 hours, (sometimes less, sometimes more) of entertainment. You'll spend 100's of hours over the whole generation on the same console. 100 hours equates to $1000 using the 2 hours for $20 equation from the movie. It's well worth it and can actually be a cheap hobby/time waster in short to medium term.

So no. $500 is more than ok for me. Who knows, this gen I might actually go down the $300 upfront fee with monthly payments to get my 720 at launch.

I have never payed more than $300 for any system except my pc and that was for the lessons it taught me. Otherwise it'd be a ripoff.

I payed:

$200 dreamcast
$100 gb advance
$200 GameCube
$300 Xbox
$100 ps2
$100 Ds
$200 psp
$250 wii
$150 360
$200 slim kinect
$300 ps3
$250 3ds
$250 vita
$300 wii u

I'm normally not a grammer Nazi but it's "For their sake" and "have two sets"

Sorry about that but I agree on everything you said and I hope they have a 1tb model, but I think they should bundle a game voucher with it too (Knack or the Witness or something) with all that space and considering a 1tb is not anywhere close to $100 more than a 500gb HDD (they could probably get it down to $400 but I understand if they want some extra cashola).

Too expensive. I'm still expecting the PS4 to be $399, which is fine by me. Personally, I think the NeXbox will be the same. Then again, who knows how much Kinect 2 will cost to put in every box. And there are also rumors it will have some kind of cable service, too.

I'm trying to figure out how the hell it's going to cost that much. Remember, the 360, the first ever HD console, released a year before the PS3, launched at a mere $299-$399 price point, with the only difference between the two SKUs being a lack of HDD for the cheaper model.

The Next Box isn't going to contain any bleeding-edge technology (as far as we know)... it's got a CPU and GPU that's standard for today's technology, Blu-Ray isn't the mad-expensive technology it was back when PS3 launched, it's not including the more expensive RAM like the PS4 is, and memory / HDDs are dirt-cheap these days. So I'm trying to figure out how the hell the Next Box could possibly cost more than $400 on the high end, especially when the PS4 has been pegged around that price point.

So let's see... according to the rumors circulating around the interwebs, the Next Box...

1: Has hardware / architecture inferior to that of PS4 and is more difficult for 3rd parties to develop for, as noted by several "anonymous" inside industry sources.
2: Will require an always-on internet connection to function.
3: Will not be able to play "used" games, or will only allow one console per copy of a game, which ties in with #2.
4: Will also be integrated with Kinect, which may be required for many of its features.
5: Will launch at $500.

Is there anyone out there who does not think that this reads like a Sony fan's wet dream?

You know I was always wondering why no one ever used the dollar sign for $ony, but then I realized they have no money so it would be pointless.

You've got at least 7 months to save up, get to it.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

$500 is still better then the $599 of old.

$500 in Australia isn't too much, $999 on the other hand is lol. I hope the PS4 place holder price of $900 isn't accurate, or I will be skipping the PS4 till it drops in price.
