A game console is one of the few items on the market where you're paying less than what it costs the manufacturer to make the item. So from a pure business standpoint you're getting back more than what you pay for. To me, that's value. I would much rather pay $500 for a game console which I know I'll use anywhere from 10-20 hours a week for 5-6 years than say pay $300 for a pair of Air Jordan's that I know costs Nike $10 to make and I know for certain won't last me 5-6 years. |
Good post. I'm pretty much the same. The amount of time being spent on the console justifies the price. Here in Australia, movie tickets are about $20 each for only 2 hours, (sometimes less, sometimes more) of entertainment. You'll spend 100's of hours over the whole generation on the same console. 100 hours equates to $1000 using the 2 hours for $20 equation from the movie. It's well worth it and can actually be a cheap hobby/time waster in short to medium term.
So no. $500 is more than ok for me. Who knows, this gen I might actually go down the $300 upfront fee with monthly payments to get my 720 at launch.
