Forums - Sales - Bioshock Infinite - First week sales guessing game!

So here are the pre orders for the final week in the US...

Pos Game Weeks to Launch  Weekly Change                Total
1
BioShock Infinite (X360)
Take-Two Interactive, Shooter
1 33,525 389,636
5
BioShock Infinite (PS3)
Take-Two Interactive, Shooter
1 9,410 216,553

The weekly change for Bioshock Infinite was surprisingly small. Especially for the PS3.

For comparison sake, here are the pre orders for some other major games...

1
Gears of War: Judgment (X360)
Microsoft Game Studios, Shooter
1 78,905 359,328

As you can see, this Gears Judgement had a lower number of pre-orders but a much bigger weekly change. This game had an opening of about 760K.

Preorders for GoW:A were a little lower than Judgement but had an opening week of 663K.

1
God of War: Ascension (PS3)
Sony Computer Entertainment, Action
1 58,775 344,452

Pre orders for Tomb Raider were significantly lower. But that could be due to a more casual following and a large portion of the sales aren't just from the US.

10
Tomb Raider (2013) (X360)
Square Enix, Action
1 29,027 136,873
12
Tomb Raider (2013) (PS3)
Square Enix, Action
1 21,971 107,112

The opening on the PS3 was 538K and the 360 version was 478K.

So looking at trends, this is what I anticpate for Bioshock Infinite...

360: 800K

PS3: 600K

I think another reason for Tomb Raider's Preorders being low, is that people were largely skeptical until reviews came out. As well as the points you pointed out.

This is difficult for me to decide, because it's known that it opened less than Tomb Raider in UK, which is an indicator for Europe

But my guess is that X360 sales in the U.S. will be much much higher than Tomb Raiders, and will be the difference.
I'm guessing slightly higher than tomb raider at like 1.3 million. 500k PS3, 800k X360

PC sales also seem higher, But I'm not counting them because VGC's aren't really in the ballpark. They've used the PC sales in articles despite those sales including 30,000 out of the 74,000 for US. When the hardcopy was never released in the US. the peak active users right at launch on steam was like 60,000+ compared to 40,000+ of tomb raiders... I have no idea how that translates to sales though, other than more than Tomb Raider on PC, which we don't know the sales of.

I wanna bet it got 900,000-923,000 across all systems it launched on.

Combined sales under a million? I think that would be a huge disappointment if that was that case.

But you kinda got me thinking. Do the masses want a shooter with no multiplayer?

We'll have to wait and see!

Deserves to be a lot higher than it probably will, but I think it will have sold decently well for PC.

i'd say it's the biggest launch of the year so far, so at least 1 million, but closer to 1.5 million probably

If Vgchartz is correct we have everything except Japan which I don't think it's released in and RoW? Sorry my Table is weird. The overall total is bottom right. Thus, likely most everyone in here guessed over, except spurge.

Not counting PC, because VGC's PC tracking is never close to correct. But I can say I looked at launch Bioshock Infinites Peak Users on Steam was ~60,000, whereas Tomb Raiders was ~40,000, where Resident Evil 6 has had a peak of like ~30,000 and the online users for that is 96,000 (on PC, you can only have one account). How that translates to overall sales I'm not sure. Sorry if I was confusing.

Let's hope that it's not considered a failure because it did not sell an insane amount in under a short period of time.

That's not the North America numbers, just US. The final number should be higher.

Regardless, it looks like sales are below my expectations. The PS3 opening is especially underwhelming.

With all the hype I definitely anticipated more. It may not even out perform Gears Judgement or GoW:A on their platforms. Combined sales are in the ballpark of Tomb Raider's opening and that was below expectations.

I honestly feel Bioshock Infinite would have performed better with online multiplayer.
