Forums - Nintendo - Zelda Finale: Skyward Sword

Do you feel the Zelda franchise need to end or go on?

End the series, it had a good run. 20 12.50%

Go on with the series. 140 87.50%

Total:160

Why would they want to end the Zelda franchise?
Even after 25 (almost 27 now) years, every game is still of top quality and it is one of gaming's most beloved series. It also wouldn't be in the best interest of Nintendo to fully 'ditch' established and succesful IP's and try their luck at new unproven ones. They're perfectly able to provide us with new experiences while continuing on with existing ones.

Sales of Skyward Sword (which are highly likely to be undertracked here) were predictable and performed exactly like it should according to the series history if you'd look at the circumstances; second game on the console, requires extra accessoiry, non-traditional game.

Yeah, no.
The Legend of Zelda is not ready to be put to rest yet. There is still a fair amount of content that can be produced.

You get an IP ban for suggesting the end of the Zelda series. The reason I keep buying consoles is because I have Zelda as an excuse to buy a box that you need to hook up to a TV.

I hope Zelda never goes away. It's the best video game franchise of all time, and it's still outstanding after more than 25 years.

Moreover, the formula allows the series to go on ad infinitum. It's not tied to a particular hero or to a specific time and place.

I say no. Partly because the series has yet to become irredeemably stagnant, which is the only reason aside from bad sales that the series should be discontinued. The other part is mostly that I wouldn't want it to end on Skyward Sword, which I found to be a huge disappointment, and not just because it failed to soar in the sales department.

I believe in honesty, civility, generosity, practicality, and impartiality.

I suspect the root of the problem is that you actually care about the story in Zelda games, and that you actually put stock in the "Zelda Timeline."

It does exist, just that its continuity is about as sacred as a DC or Marvel comic.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I can understand if someone disagree with me on this but, I felt Zelda: Skyward Sword should have been the final game of the franchise. It did a good job explaining the origin of the master sword, the creation of Hyrule, the creation of Ganondorf and the Timeline was explain during the 25 anniversary. I don't know about you, but after beating the game and reading the official timeline, I felt this was the perfect and fitting end to the franchise, like Toy Story 3 for example.

Any Zelda game at this point will sort of feel like milking the franchise. I'm all for a new Zelda, as long they respect the series. If it was up to me, I would end the series with Skyward Sword and work on a new IP.

As new consoles release this year, I feel it's time Nintendo, Sony and other deveplors need to break away from their safety net and come up with new IPs, bring old IPs and give them a fresh new take of the market, like Kid Icarus or the new Dante. This is another reason why I feel the Zelda series need to end, as scary it is to take chances to innovate and create a new IPs, if you stay with the same formula, people slowly begin to lose interest and the sales begin to take a hit. Skyward Sword was a great game, but the sales didn't reach the numbers compare to Twilight Princess or Mario Galaxy. Knack is a good start with Sony' and look forward to other new IPs they invest in, same with Dillon Rolling Western (Nintendo latest IP) its a series with great potinal.

That's something I can respect with Bungie on how they ended the Halo series, even though Microsoft didn't want the franchise to end, and move on to a newIP (Destiny).

What your take on this?  :)

So you want to end the series before it has even been in hd, this is obviously a troll thread because no sane person would write something so moronic and hideous. The LOZ series will still be around in another 25 years and beyond.

I didn't say it doesn't exist, just that no one should care. Nintendo slapped together some half-ass continuity decades after the first games released; personally, I refuse to see that as anything more than fan fiction!

I thought Skyward Sword was the best Zelda game since Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. So no, I don't want them to stop now. I want more games in this fantastic franchise.

Who cares about the story? I always saw the games mostly as a retelling of the same hero legend, anyway.
