Call of Duty no doubt, but will it remain that way this coming gen.

He's not going to take what you're saying into consideration.

COD sells alot on a userbase that includes the entireity of all possible gamers. Consider how big Mario would be if it wasn't exclusive to one console? |
True. Nintendo should definitely make mario multiplatform, it would beat CoD at once. We aren't talking hypothesis here, the question is about the actual situation. There is no "if".
Put this into perspective with just the last coulple COD game and NSMBWii.
CODBlops2
| X360 | PS3 | WiiU | PC | TOTAL | |
| Userbase | 74m | 73m | 3m | 100m+ | 250m+ |
| Sales | 12m | 10m | 0.2m | 1m | 23.2m |
| Sales % | 16% | 14% | 7% | 1% | 9% |
CODMW3
| X360 | PS3 | Wii | PC | TOTAL | |
| Userbase | 74m | 73m | 99m | 100m+ | 346m+ |
| Sales | 15m | 13m | 1m | 2m | 31m |
| Sales % | 20% | 18% | 1% | 2% | 9% |
NSMBWii
| Wii | |
| Userbase | 99m |
| Sales | 27m |
| Sales % | 27% |
So.
"Mario games" have 99m possible userbase vs over 350m. That's over 3x the possible number of purchasers. YET, their games can and often do still outsell COD on game by game basis on both raw number of sales and especially % of sales to its potential user base (even if you remove PC).
How can anyone argue that Mario is not the video game king?

See my post above for "actual situation".

I shall question your logic. First, you compare a game doesn't even have 6 six on the market (BO2) to a 2009 game (NSMBWii). If you take time into account, BO2 is much, much stronger than NSMBWii.
Mario games having a lesser possible user base doesn't mean much : PS360 owners have a choice between many games in a full array of genres, so it's only normal that one game would have a smaller sales/user base ratio. Wii owners don't have that kind rich library, and many of them probably hardly know there are games beyond mario.
Ultimately, I want to add a new point. In economics you don't just consider units, but value. A CoD game costs 20€ more than your average mario game, not to mention the extra revenue that comes from the DLCs.
For all those reasons, it is clear that Call of Duty is a much bigger business than mario.

Fixed. 3.87m differecnce.
How about a far more practical comparison with real userbase and real "Mario" games.

PS360 total: 131.04m means a sale average of 8.7m per game on a userbase of 147m which is 6% of the possible userbase.

| 5 | New Super Mario Bros U | WiiU | 2012 | Platform | Nintendo | 0.73 | 0.31 | 0.49 | 0.11 | 1.63 |
Wii/U total: 49.68m means a sales average of 9.9m per game on a userbase of 102m which is 9.7% of the possible userbase.
EDIT: pulling out NSMBU and Paper Mario will only help my point... just tossing that out there.

1) I compared two COD games... not just the newer BO2.
2) You're entire 2nd paragraph is your opinion that is completely wrong in the face of actual facts. Wii (which was the only Mario focus in this thread) had a lot more overall software titles available, especially at a lower price point.
3) Your economics point is wrong too. COD titles may have started at $60 vs Wii's $50, however, which one fell in price sooner and more often? NSMB/Galaxy/Kart or any COD? Nintendo relentlessly keeps original price for freaking ever... and that's not even considering the "value" in all the Mario merchandising.
For all your post, it is clear you have a biased opinion beyond factual evidence.
Mario sells consoles, on its own, repeatedly, for over 25years.
COD does not sale consoles at any time, ever.

As you all know, in economics you don't count DS sales or merchendise sales so this point is valid and strong.
