If this were to happen, would people stop labeling the pad as a gimmic?

LOL Do you know how many button commands would be needed to make starcraft work on console? They would need a Keyboard.

The pad makes it really possible on a console for the first time. However, you guys are missing the question. Would haters still label the pad as a gimmic?

The move can do RTS but no one is talking about that. To play Starcraft the way its meant to be played you need a mouse and keyboard. Plain and simple.

And shooters were also meant for mouse and keyboard. That didn't stop shooters from going to consoles. Yes you can use move for RTS games. You can also use a wii mote and duel analogs. None of them are a better option than the pad.

Not true. FPS titles are completely controlable with a gaming controllers thanks to analog sticks. No one cares whether its best on PC, because to the majority it feels right on a controller. I hate to break it to you but PC gamers are the minority now where FPS is concerned. Competitively speaking its nowhere near equal where RTS is concerned. The amount of button commands I saw my roommate doing and another friend in this game and they claim they arent as fast as some eastern European and Korean SC2 players. Thats insane.

It is true that shooters were made for mouse and keyboard. Of coarse they are completely controllable with duel analogs. Just not better than mouse and keyboard. The Wii mote is better. And RTS can be completely controlabe with a U pad.

Well there is historical precedent for it. N64 had an exclusive console version of the original, and it even included BroodWar and split-screen multiplayer. It was actually pretty decent. The C-buttons did a manageable job of working the many bottom-right screen build/unit functions.

The Screamapillar is easily identified by its constant screaming—it even screams in its sleep. The Screamapillar is the favorite food of everything, is sexually attracted to fire, and needs constant reassurance or it will die.

Starcraft 2 can have a huge amount of units on screen and the WiiU CPU is faaar to weak for that.

Blizzard would need to make a tighter population limit or only allow 2 player multiplayer matches (without additional AI players of course).

I don't know why people are saying it can't happen. StarCraft was on the Nintendo 64. Im sure the advances in the WiiU could accommodate StarCraft 2. Halo wars, Red Alert.... There have been other rts games on consoles.

*drools* If only EA,.... *sigh* :(

Anyways, of course it would not be equiparable with a PC version, but if Nintendo is able to develop RTS for WiiU, it'll be my favourite console of all times.

Edit:

You can play Starcraft II with a wacom tablet if you want.  It is a poor substitute for a mouse and keyboard.  Starcraft isn't really the ideal game for this.  It's too fast and has too much micromanagement.  You could certainly make it functional, but it would likely result in gameplay that is basically select all and attack move.

A better choice would probably be something like total war that is slow and deliberate.

And Sega could be a far easier publisher to convince than EA or Activision-Blizzard.

It doesn't matter, just deliver good RTS and I'll happily buy a WiiU

Or just scale the graphics down to like... Low setting.  For maybe everything except textures.

but it's the amount of AI units that is the problem. You can't solve that with scaling down the graphics.

I suppose some level of re-engineering would be required, too.  They could do it, given enough time and money.

The gamepad is a great idea. I dont know why people hate on it.

Its a godsend for online games and micromanagement.

I only wish it didnt have so much plastic. Would like for it to be smaller given the screen to plastic rate seems 1/1.

It could work if the console players were restricted to playing against each other. The level of play would never reach that of PC players but the game would be enjoyable still.

Is the Wii U really that weak? StarCraft II is almost three years old and even at release it didn't require top of line PCs to run it.
