Forums - Nintendo - Starcraft 2 on Wii U

Seriously for the people defending the fact that it would be nice to be on wiiU or any console for that matter, are you guys joking lol you need a keyboard there's WAY too many commands to do.

you can easily play the entire campaign with just the mouse. Sure for high level play you need a high APM and tons of hots keys but thats not the point. Most people do not play at that level, even though I have played starcraft 2 more than any game in my life except for perhaps brood war I still see a huge amount of value in a wii u version of starcraft in some capacity.

Who is John Galt?

That wouuld be really cool actually. The game could be a great fit with the gamepad. If PS4 could get Diablo 3, why can't Wii U get Starcraft II?

I don't know why people are saying it can't happen. StarCraft was on the Nintendo 64. Im sure the advances in the WiiU could accommodate StarCraft 2. Halo wars, Red Alert.... There have been other rts games on consoles.

Yes, they attempted them, but the reality is that the console's controls aren't best suited for doing RTS historically  Why do you think RTS doesn't sell well on consoles?

Strategy games have been built up as exclusive games to PC since the 90's. It would take years to make it change. Diablo is the consoles best bet. Starcraft gameplay would require a much better connection and a keyboard. My roommate plays that game and the way he and his opponents bang on the keys? Yeah....no. LOL

RTS's are my favorite genre right now. You dont need a ton of buttons to play the game. Sometimes when I'm feeling lazy I only use my mouse and the f2 button(i actually played sc1 and the warcraft series this way too as i was never good with keyboards, I now practice using hotkeys to improve my gameplay). Nothing else. While sc2 is a highly competitive game, it also has a lot of casual users and single player users. I play against the computer AI but not against others as I often need to pause and get up from a game and cant do that online. A console port would not have the best ontrols, but it most certaintly can be done. Especially if the console has a touch screen, and if they have voice controls it can be even better.

You can play Starcraft II with a wacom tablet if you want.  It is a poor substitute for a mouse and keyboard.  Starcraft isn't really the ideal game for this.  It's too fast and has too much micromanagement.  You could certainly make it functional, but it would likely result in gameplay that is basically select all and attack move.

A better choice would probably be something like total war that is slow and deliberate.

If this were to happen, would people stop labeling the pad as a gimmic?

RTS has failed to make it to consoles successfully, due to interface issues.  Black Ops 2 attempt in that area was poor for the same reason.  With the Wii U, and also PS4 controllers, RTS has a shot of coming over.

There has never been a console interface before the wii u pad that was really capable. But the question is would people still label the pad as a gimmic?

No, the control-scheme will not work with the Gamepad. But, a RTS made for the WiiU will work, the gamepad allows for these type of games. But I expect a smaller company to try that.

most sensible post so far.

that starcraft layout sounds terriblely akward.  but wiiU's gamepad ought to allow for dozens of on-screen hotkeys that would make a tailor made RTS pretty good on wiiU.  just not starcraft.  it would never live up to it's history on PC.

LOL Do you know how many button commands would be needed to make starcraft work on console? They would need a Keyboard.

The pad makes it really possible on a console for the first time. However, you guys are missing the question. Would haters still label the pad as a gimmic?

Starcraft 2 belongs to PC and it should stay there no need for starcraft 2 on consoles in my opinion, you need a mouse and a keyboard for that game.

Never gonna happen.

Why bother, it would hardly sell any copies and besides most modern computers even laptops can run starcraft pretty well.
