But then there is also the "99% of phat PS2s died because of disk read errors" thing. (I swear I dont know a single person that still has a phat PS2 all have slims because the phat ones laser failed) So basically its more like 70 million unique PS2 owners.

Insinuating more than half of the install base bought another PS2, and all Phat PS2's have died is retarded. Also the PS2 has sold more than 150M Units. Think for a moment....

..........

Dumbass.

Edit: That was mean, but I hate delusion fanboys who say retarded shit.

My launch phat ps2 still goes strong, its actually outlasted my ps3.

Wii U is priced above the market NSMBU is aimed at, and even if it wasn't, even casuals need more than one appealing game before they drop hundreds of dollars on a console. Kart will help because it will help build such a library.

So are there any system sellers on a Nintendo console? Or do they rely on each other to build to a complete package i.e. the console will sell more and more as more games come out, but never in jumps?

You realize NSMB Wii launched when the Wii had a huge install base and it's been selling since 2009, while NSMBU was release on the Wii U's launch day (meaning no install base) and it's been selling for only 4 months. There's no point in comparing those 2 games, at least not for now.

Not really, that's why I said seriously after. The point I was making was that you can't necessarily rely on any Nintendo franchise to sell the Wii U if the second biggest seller led to a poor launch.

I'm guessing people who aren't sticking around for another installment

NSMB Wii 27m -> NSMB U 2m

Seriously though, if the next best selling game after Kart couldn't get the Wii U off the ground, how can any other Nintendo franchise guarantee sales? Does this look like mass appeal to you?

This is a joke, right? Tell me you are not comparing sales of a game with more than 3 years in the market in an active userbase with a game with only 5 months in the launch of a console.

And answering your question, there's no game in this world able to save a console, but most of a mix of different factors including software.

Now, I'll ask you how do you know that people in not going to stick in those franchises. 3DS MK and SM3DLand have proved the contrary.

Both, really. Games like Smash pull a big audience, as does Kart, but ultimately cumulative libraries draw in more players than any one game.

GC's case actually didn't made any sense. It had games(1st and 3rd party), it had the controller, it had the online features, it had even an add-on that played GBA/GBC games and also GBA connection that allowed new gaming possibilities, it was the smallest and most reliable console of that generation and, most importantly for the gaming forums crowd, it had the graphics.

So, what can we conclude from all that? Gaming market makes no sense.

hahaha pretty much.  Definitely deserved more than Xbox that's for sure.  Being purple and...well...being a cube hurt it but that just shows the general stupidity of the consumer.

I still totally liked the way it looked.

actually I did too.  Sony had the black box market covered so I liked seeing something different from Nintendo.  I haven't liked how either Xbox has looked but Dreamcast, all Nintendo systems (last 2 have been kind of bland probably because of GC being poorly recieved), and all Sony systems (though PS3 has had the worst track record and I hope they have a flat top on the PS4 at least) have all looked great to me.

I thought the Gamecube looked cute compared to the bland Xbox and PS2, but that's just me.

And just for the record, I think th fat PS3 is the coolest looking console of all time.

If Nintendo makes a profit off of each console sold (which they will by the end of the year most likely), and there are enough games to keep the owners of the system happy......what else matters? I only had a Gamecube and never even considered owning a PS2 or an Xbox, and I enjoyed the hell out of it. It didn't matter who sold more, or anything like that, I had the console I wanted, and it kept me satisfied.

The whole notion of comparing the Wii U to the Gamecube is ridiculous. I'm just going to leave this here....

I liked the way the gamecube looked, and to this day, the wavebird is my favorite controller for any system ever.
