GC's case actually didn't made any sense. It had games(1st and 3rd party), it had the controller, it had the online features, it had even an add-on that played GBA/GBC games and also GBA connection that allowed new gaming possibilities, it was the smallest and most reliable console of that generation and, most importantly for the gaming forums crowd, it had the graphics.

So, what can we conclude from all that? Gaming market makes no sense.

You still don't know why the Gamecube failed? Let me inform you.

1. It looked like a lunchbox.(WTF is up with that handle?)
2. The controller was ugly and weird.
3. Graphics don't matter when it comes to Nintendo games. So whatever advanatage it had didn't matter since people didn't buy 3rd party games.
4. It was marketed as a kids console while the PS2 was the cool console for all ages.

Have to agree with ya, no offence i love nintendo...but the gamecube was just...hideous :L, as for its controller wid its multicolour buttons. Its like they let a kid choose the colours.

You mean like the SNES? Or the 360?

the snes and 360 controllers are pretty good looking. That gamecube controller just looks wierd :S.

doesn't change the fact that it was on hell of a comfortable controller with the best analog triggers. man i had a xbox back then and everytime i played with the Gc of my friend i immediatley felt home...it made me actually sad that i didn't have one lol

thats subjective, might just be because you were more accustomed to the gamecube controller, i had a ps2 but a friend had a gamecube, when i went over to play with him i had a hard time with his controller. I guess its just a matter of what your used to. I'm not dissing how well the controllers made or anything, but the design of the controller and the box itself propably put a lot of people off even before they tried it.

Guess what? The weakest Mario, Zelda, and Mario Kart were all on the Gamecube (sorry guys, but it's true) so games do have a lot to do with sales.

Also, the thing looked like a purple lunch box.

This is actually true.

I still believe that games aren't the main issue the Wii U is facing though.

Well yes it needs all the GC games to even get to 20m. But those are already a given. What we mean by "needs games" is EITHER third party tier-one treatment, or some breakout mass market games like Wii.

GC type games are NOT mass market.

i quite liked the GC controller when i played zelda & resi evil on it

Well Wii U has mass market games. 2D Mario being the best example and Call of Duty Black OPs 2 being the other. What went wrong?

CoD wasn't tier one treatment because of the late release and lack of online features

I don't know why 2D Mario didn't work.

DVDs were becoming mainstream... I already had a DVD player but when my friends went off to college they bought either PS2 or Xbox because they wanted a DVD player too for their dorm room. Same reason people started buying PS3 when the price dropped, the blu-ray option.

I agree, and it's not a bad thing, I feel for the both of them.

Because the "No games" "excuse" is the truth.

You say GC had Mario? True. Did it have 2D Mario, though? No. You say GC had Pokemon, true. Does "anyone" buy console Pokemon games though? No. You say the GC had several Zelda's. True. Did anyone like most of those Zelda's at first though? No, people ridiculed them (WW for example) because they weren't what they wanted.

There you go, there's your answer.

The console itself lacks basic appeal, that's the real issue, not the games. No game will mend that problem.
