I think he means that lack of power is a potential reason for the lack of games. If devs are building games for a higher speced ps4 or next Xbox, they may not want to port to the Wii U.

This. I think Wii U will get Wii'd on by third parties.

Main reason is easily because of no compelling software. Essentially there's a bunch of ports and the second 2D Mario game in a matter of months. Then there was a drought with almost no software. Nintendo was releasing 1 30 cent game a month, but none of those games are particularily good enough to hold peoples' interest more than a few days at most. Japan gets Earthbound, but it seems they are the only place, that game is VERY interesting and should be released everywhere to help ease the gap. Also given Earthbound's popularity, it might actually push some consoles to the hardcore Earthbound fans. Nintendo should have done at least one VC game a week at 30 cents.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

I voted for the Gamepad. Even if the games would come, I would still prefer to play third Party games on a normal controller. These "innovative" controllers are more often a nuisance than a bonus. The Vita version of Assassin's Creed was almost unplayable due to the touchpad controls.

I would also add "lack of trophies". I would find it great if you would have an account-based Trophy system where you could try to get all Zelda Platinums. It is a nice feature to honour your favourite games.

Everybody says the current gen it's been already too long and gamers are tired of playing the same for 7 years. The WiiU offers (due to lack of powers) current gen ports and exclusive games that offer nothing new if you already have a PS3/360.

I'm not saying early PS4/720 games would be any kind of revolutionary but at least they will wow people with improved graphics, which the WiiU can't.

It also lacks a revolutionary control, which was the selling point of the Wii.

This is to me the main reason, not the lack of gamez. It just have not enough appeal to gamers and casuals.

Game of the year 2017 so far:

5. Resident Evil VII
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
3. Uncharted: The Lost Legacy
2. Horizon Zero Dawn
1. Super Mario Odyssey

Actually, polls have shown that xbox 360 and PS3 owners are not very interested in a new console.

No? What are those news about the PS4 having the strongest demand ever and stuff like that, then?

Lack of games don't sell consoles. Nothing else on that poll influenced the Wii U's slowing sales.

There is one option missing from the poll that is significant, and that is the continued strength of PS360. Their late-gen software support is unprecidented. There is little motivation for these owners to buy a new system with so many big games coming out for what they already have, or for owners to choose a more expensive new system taht is only playing the same games.

This goes hand in hand with Wii U needing games, which is the option I chose. It needs games, groundbreaking games, exclusive games. Almost everything on the system is multiplat, and was all late ports on top of that. MarioBros, NL and Zombie U just aren't enough to coax the core gamers and the mainstream are happy with a PSWii60 as long as it has some games and is cheaper.

A price cut will help, marketing is needed. But WiiU needs a couple core titles that wow people and make them want the system. This will spread word of mouth. And it also needs PS360 to die and be replaced by more expensive systems with fewer games.

That's a very good point. It's part of the reason I don't have a Wii U right now. NSMBU is not enough to warrant a purchase but it's also coupled with the fact that I still have a ton of games that I want to play on my PC/PS3/360. In a sense, the shift of focus to the PS4 and NextBox will help the Wii U's momentum.

Signature goes here!

It seems to me there are two main lines of thinking going on here both of which are right from their vantage point.

Nintendo fans who (rightly) say once the games come out, of course we'll buy. And I'm sure no one doubts that when Mario, Zelda, Smash Bros, Kart come out Nintendo fans will buy the system and it's sales will rise above current levels.

The other line of thinking is that ONLY Nintendo fans are going to buy WiiU and that makes it - by default - a sales failure along the lines of GameCube/N64 (20m-30m). While it's possible some core exclusives or casual craze will get people to buy, both of those seem very unlikely to happen and either would have to be strong enough to overcome the WiiU's inherient weaknesses - low power / non-casual friendly interface. It's not that this group is saying WiiU will always sell as poorly as it is right now, but that it will never catch on in a big way and compared to Wii, PS3 and 360 will never appear as 'successful'.

WiiU will almost certainly be a profit generator for Nintendo but still leave Nintendo in a very bad place with both the 3DS and WiiU most likely to continue to underperform outside of Japan, it's brand and relevance (and profits) are waning.
