I'm gay. 50+ years ago if you came out of the closet you could've been institutionalized, and likely would've been thought of as a pedophile. Even to this day there are millions who risk being burned at the stake or socially ostracized for the rest of their life for being gay. If your problem is that you don't like being called a name then you really need to grow a pair.

Just my two cents. Bring on the haters.

Example: If someone says "What is this gay?" or "That is gay"... I think 'lame', nothing at all about sexual preference... maybe because that's how I became accustomed to it being used as a casual slang term. Though, I'm sure some mean to use it to insult gay people and put them under an umbrella label that says 'lame' (i.e. not fitting in) that you theoretically don't want to be put under at the same time... so I can understand the desire to stop that conflicting/oppressive message from being injected there.

It's just so weird how that word can have so many meanings. We need just need to stop reusing words and come up with some new ones...

I truly hate how easy people use words like that nowadays. If i ever made a comment like that i'd get severly punished by my parents.
Lots of people lack respect and decency nowadays. (especially online... the cowards...)

You should play Dragon Age Origins, you will see that the game industry is in no way as full of hate as this Forum is. Also, I think these words are confusing, we should just say homossexual.

And, one more thing, what is the big deal, we all use Personas to interact in the social enviroment, I mean, it is not like I am a sexual being 24/7, I have to be a WORKER while I work, a GOOD SON when I visit my parents or a STUDENT when I am learning something.

So, why what we do in our bedrooms has to define our whole life?

Hey brah, at least use the definition that is applicable i.e. the noun, not the verb. Same source:

a. a mentally retarded person.

b. a person who is stupid, obtuse, or ineffective in some way: a hopeless social retard.

 

The problem with these terms is there are multiple definitions...and some of them "disparaging". They are related by definition, but not by context. 

"That book is gay/retarded" - obviously the book's sexual preference isn't in question, nor is its mental capacity.

"You are gay/retarded is on the order of: stupid, dumb, idiot, moron, lame, etc" and really has no bearing upon sexuality - not offensive in regard to sexuality.
