Wow, totally missed this thread before I went off on my tangent... oh well lol

I'm kinda weirded out by this... to me, gay originally meant 'really happy', and then somewhere it became homosexual (or always was?)... but to me, it also means 'lame' or 'not cool', without either of those contexts. I have no idea if you meant homosexual gay or 'lame gay' and it's sometimes too hard to tell, but with the context of the quote, it's easier to think you were talking very directly about homosexuality... and not in a joking manner... but anyway Example: If someone says "What is this gay?" or "That is gay"... I think 'lame', nothing at all about sexual preference... maybe because that's how I became accustomed to it being used as a casual slang term. Though, I'm sure some mean to use it to insult gay people and put them under an umbrella label that says 'lame' (i.e. not fitting in) that you theoretically don't want to be put under at the same time... so I can understand the desire to stop that conflicting/oppressive message from being injected there. It's just so weird how that word can have so many meanings. We need just need to stop reusing words and come up with some new ones... |
