The thing is, Sakamoto had been slowly straying away from what makes Metroid great. Metroid fusion was very light on story, but did end in some nice plot points for the future.

But fusion wasn't that great a game, it was very linear, and I consider it to be in the lower tier of the franchise.

He did do some good stuff, I will give him that. But his vision for Metroid is not something I like, he wants more linear gameplay, and more story. In other M he fully realized his vision. It was an abomination, he simply doesn't want to make the kind of Metroid that fans want.

I aknowledge his great work in the past, but he is not right for the job anymore. (I think the same of Eiji Aonuma)

I agree with this as well.  You have good taste my friend.

:) Thank you, and the same to you.

Fair enough. Can't say I agree, but to each his own.

How about a 3D metroid that plays like SM3DL? I mean like a 3D environment but plays as a 2D platformer? It worked out well wit mario, why not samus?

They tried it in Other M.

It almost/ might have killed the franchise.

just cuz one didn't do well doesn't mean the other. It could still work if they worked around the bad corners imo.

Well that's why I think they should go with my idea, a top-down TPS. With the 3D screen it would still be really easy to include platforming yet it would give the game new life. It's somewhat like SM3DL but with the camera at a higher angle.

We need a Vania and fast. Castlavania did not deliver the Vania experience. Now its up to Metroid and I will die if it does not have the traditional core. On a smaller, note no more prequels

If Metroid fails our only hope for a game like that on the 3DS would be Shantae.

Man, why'd you have to drag Aonuma into this? He has nothing to do with this discussion. I can agree about Sakamoto, but I'm sick of all the hate Aonuma gets. The Zelda series hasn't seen a catastrophe anywhere near the degree of Other M, and he knows what the fans want.

At least, this is supposedly what the fans want. I consider myself a Zelda fan, and I couldn't care less whether or not there is a predetermined order for the dungeons. Link's Awakening, yo. All I want is a pleasant aesthetic, memorable characters, and the brilliant action/adventure gameplay the series is known for. Nonlinearity is a non issue.

Aonuma's not even directing anymore, just producing. Fujibayashi is the new director.

I don't think Aonuma is that bad, and he made my favorite Zelda game (Wind Waker) and one of my top 3 (Majora's Mask).

Also, I'm super excited based on the no specific dungeon order convention he mentioned as well. That's going to be awesome.

The thing I'm worried with him, is that TP,SS,ST,and PH were all pretty bad Zelda games IMO. And they were all bad for a lot of the same reasons. Aonuma does do some great stuff, but these past 4 games have started to falter.

I much prefer Fusion's linear gameplay approach to Metroid than Super Metroid, for example, but it looks like i'm the only one that thinks that here.

I've loved all the portable Metroid games (with the exception of Prime Pinball, which I haven't played yet), so I'll be happy with whatever it is.

That being said, I'd probably most prefer a 2D game, only because it speaks to the series' roots and it allows for simple, intuitive controls.

I would like to see a huge 3D Metroid on Wii U, though -- maybe something about Samus' origins.
