Forums - Nintendo - Lets Be Honest -- Nintendo Is Simply Unable To Support Two Hardware Platforms At Once

I think Nintendo's future (and they probably won't like it) will be one unified hybrid console/portable platform as others have said and as has been widely speculated.

This.

Even ignoring the advantages of a combined lineup, the next generation of handheld will likely be on par with the Wii U. It would be a simple matter for Nintendo to shift from Wii U HD development to high-end portable development, particularly if specs are similar. Hell, now that I'm thinking about it, I can imagine the next generation DS being something like this:

HDMI compatible

2 to 4 GB of RAM, with 1 GB devoted to Miiverse

Game Cards up to 32 GB at launch

Can play Wii U discs with peripheral and 3DS games naturally

Same controls as Wii U, plus 3DS cameras

This would be enough for a lot of lower end console games, and would be the ultimate handheld machine.

Right now, Nintendo need to give it a rest with the 3DS and focus their efforts on Wii U.

The 3DS doesn't need hep; the Wii U desperately does.

Thing is, the 3DS needed a lot of help two years ago, when they began a lot of the projects just now coming to fruition. So by the time the Wii U gets the help it needs, it will be 2015 and the 3DS will likely be in a slump.

Now if you think about it, their best consoles have been their handheld consoles. I play my 3DS more then the Wii and Wii U. This may sound unrealistic but I say drop the consoles and stick with the handheld consoles.

No way! Their consoles are so much better.

Seconded.

I have absolutely zero interest in portables, but the SNES, N64, and Wii were amazing.

not really, by that time their will be MH5/Zelda Remake MM/Pokemon Z most likely coming that year imo

They couldn't even support the Wii properly down the stretch even though it was their best selling console ever, it's last two years aren't any better than the GameCube, probably worse actually. The 3DS went through some droughts also.

Just to debunk this:

Nintendo developed 6 games in the last two years of the Gamecube: Twilight Princess, Chibi Robo, Mario Party 7, Fire Emblem Path of Radiance, and Donkey Kong Jungle Beat.

Nintendo developed 9 games in the same period for Wii: Super Mario Galaxy 2,  Xenoblade: Chronicles, Zelda Skyward Sword, Kirby's Return to Dreamland, Donkey Kong Country Returns, Mario Sports Mix, Wii Party, Pokepark Wii.

As you can see the Wii support was MUCH better than it was on Gamecube. In fact, Gamecube's entire catalog of Nintendo developed titles doesn't even match up. I wouldn't say this Wii support was anything but very strong.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.

That's not true. Wasn't Pachter the one who said they have like 8 billion cash?

You mean the guy who said Wii U would be flying off the shelves like Wii?

And golden toilets are still assets!

They have 10B$ in cash and that excludes the toilets! ;)

That 10 billion in chash is at 5 now apparently.  Or rather it was 5 in 2012.  From what I can gather from the forum I found it in, it's in this PDF http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/pdf/2012/120426e.pdf.  If someone with better knowledge than I wanna analyze it cause I can't make heads or tails.
