When Mario Kart is released it will sell about 800,000 that week.

I think people are overestimating Mario kart's ability to sell systems I loved Mario kart wii but i seriously doubt another huge sales outburst again.  To the topic at hand, I can't give a number but when SSBU comes out I expect a spike.  That's when I'll buy a Wii U and I know some others who'll do the same

Mario Kart will definitely push more systems than any other game. It is Nintys biggest franchise after all.

Bayonetta ? 40k.
Wonderful 101 ? 20-30k

Mario game ? 10000k

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

^ Bayonetta 2 is either going to absolutely catch on fire and sell more than 1 did on both 360 and PS3 combined, or it's going to be an absolute disaster.

Not a very helpful prediction, I know, but that's one game where I think just about anything could happen.

I doubt Nintendo knows how to market a game like Bayonetta.

In North America all they know how to do is run commercials on Cartoon Network or Nickledeon aimed at the kids market.

If NSMB2 isn't ahead of Mario 3D Land yet, it will be soon enough, so that's pretty much academic at this point.

NSMB DS > Super Mario 64 DS

NSMB Wii > Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2 combined

People went to buy 3DS 2 holidays ago for price cut + MK7 + Mario 3D Land.

People didn't go to buy as much last holiday with 3DSXL + NSMB2.

People rushed in holidays 2009 to buy a Wii + NSMBWii

People laugh at Wii U + NSMBU

The only thing it has been proved, is that the system seller statuts of the NSMB series has gone and the 3D Marios still have. Gamers (mostly the dedicated ones) are going to buy a console/handheld for a 3D Mario, not for another NSMB sequel.

2D Marios need to be diferent to gain back the system seller status.

Edit: Damn DietSoap

Either that or Mario Kart 7 was the real sales driver.

What I think is happening with the 3DS too is that every year tablets/smartphones continue to chip away at the handheld market, so Nintendo is fighting just to keep selling the same 15 million 3DS' a year (whereas the DS exploded past 20+ million a year after NSMB hit).

Nintendo's rode Mario too hard the past few years anyway, I don't think 3D Mario, Mario Kart, or 2D Mario will sell as well as their Wii predacessors. Probably not even close.

If Nintendo have any sort of plan they will drag their biggest hitters out until closer to PS4 and NextBox launches. This will give a clear image to consumers that it intends to compete with these new consoles as well as stealing some thunder.

Im holding of a WiiU purchase until Zelda hits but a new 3D mario adventure would sure turn my head come November.

Hard to say. This time next year, maybe 40-50k average weekly, this is given a price cut around the holiday season.

i would say once all games are out we could see a full year at 150k average a week

Switch!!!

So ~ 8 million a year tops? How long would you expect it to stay at that level? Just curious.

Have some time to kill? Read my shitty games blog. http://www.pixlbit.com/blogs/586/gigantor21

:D

The 3DS struggles to sell 150/week and that's with monster sales coming from Japan, NSMB2, 3D Mario, Mario Kart, Zelda: OoT 3D, Dragon Quest VII (Japan), Monster Hunter 3G, Fire Emblem, Paper Mario, Resident Evil, Kindgom Hearts, two hardware models, and an $80 price reduction.

I doubt the Wii U is going to be doing that anytime soon, I think it'll be lucky if its Japanese sales go back to 20k+ a week at this rate.
