Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Microsoft Fined Over Rival Browser Choice

How are people criticizing the EU over this? Microsoft failed to comply with the agreement, they admitted it themselves. What is the Commission supposed to say, "nah, it's no big deal, don't worry about it?" Does no one else find it odd that the "technical error" lasted a full year before it got fixed?

Yeah, that was intentional. There was no choice but to fine them.

Exactly lol. They should have fined them for the 30% failure rate too... While we're on the subject of knowingly fucking the consumer.

The broken agreement was the problem.

But overall it's still a laughable matter. That is what happens when you're too successful.

Totally agree. I dont see why people are taking MS's side. They were supposed to do something (and which really wouldnt have cost them a cent) and they didnt. So they pay the price. Good on the EU for enforcing it.

Yall know that google teamed up with opera to file complaint, which is what
started the proceedings. Frankly, I think that it is fair given msft suing googles hardware partners

Yep good thing from the EU.
The USA would have took the side of Microsoft or Apple cause you can't scratch on the reputation of those 2 giants.
Rather secure the face instead of showing and following AGREEMENTS AND RULES MICROSOFT ACCEPTED!!!!!
On the other side the "law" there would rip Samsung and others apart in an instant cause they are enemies of their loved ones. And they don't care if they are wrong with their decision.

If they accept something like that and don't do what they promised you have to pay - And of course its a high amount of money(probably not for Microsoft) cause they have enough and Windows is a strong selling Product anyway.

I never understood why its such a big deal if M$ doesnt expressly bundle a diffrent browser with thier OS. To be honest anyone who is smart enough to realize IE sucks is smart enough to go download their own Browser. Its not like its difficult at all. Sometimes these rulings against corporations go way too far. In the end its the consumer that loses.

For all those people who are happy M$ lost answer me this. Who is going to end up footing the bill for this? Ultimately its the consumers. M$ is just going to recoup the losses by charging more for their services. And who pays for those services? Thats right the consumers. ALL OF US have to be punished because the EU thinks that some people are too stupid to download a different browser. Awesome...

I mostly play RTS and Moba style games now adays as well as ALOT of benchmarking. I do play other games however such as the witcher 3 and Crysis 3, and recently Ashes of the Singularity. I love gaming on the cutting edge and refuse to accept any compromises. Proud member of the Glorious PC Gaming Master Race. Long Live SHIO!!!!

lol at EU attackers.
They were sued for this YEARS ago, and they just did it again to get their IE numbers up. It's pretty obvious.

The point is that having an alternative browser would NOT have cost MS anything in the first place. Sure they might have lost a little bit of market share in the browser market but IE would still have been the browser by a wide margin. And no I dont see why MS should be passing this off to consumers fr a mistake they made.

I find it interesting that people like you are brushing off what MS did and making various excuses to justify their position.

People seriously think this is the EU trying to grab some money? Like... seriously? Did you even read the article guys or have any idea what this is about?

I'm pretty sure if they get enough people to use IE and Bing, that their profits would be much higher than the fine, so they most likely don't give a fuck, unless they get fined an X amount everyday that it's not fixed, which is something I think the EU and the US should both be doing to keep the PC as an open platform instead of the garbage that the asshole CEO and their board of directors are trying to push onto the end users.
