But Metal Gear Rising isn't a part of the Metal Gear Solid Series. It's a spinoff, a side game. Similar to how Halo Wars isn't a part of the main Halo series. Stuff happens in the game which is a part of the story, but it's not a main series game.

If MGR doesn't sell well, that doesn't hurt the Metal Gear Solid franchise one bit. If DmC sells badly, that could kill the franchise.

Metal Gear Solid is part of the Metal Gear saga. Metal Gear Rising is also part of the Metal Gear saga. Is canon. How many times do I have to say this? It is no spin-off,

Yea, but Metal Gear Rising isn't part of Metal Gear Solid. It's part of the Metal Gear Umbrella, but not a part of the main series.

Is Halo Wars a main series Halo game? No, but the story does take place during the main Halo story.

Even Halo 3 ODST, it's not a main series game, doesn't even have Master Cheif, but it's still Halo

Is Resident Evil Code Veronica a main Resident Evil game? No it's never referenced in any game afterwards, and the story doesn't affect future games, but it does star Claire Redfield.

This is the same situation. MGR is still Metal Gear, but it's not a main series entry. It's a side story, talking about Raiden.

----

Anyway, I plan to get MGR because of my love for Platnium Studios. I don't like Metal Gear Solid games, and I don't consider this to be a main series MGS game.

So, what you mean is that Metal Gear Solid is not part of Metal Gear? Because then the main series would be Metal Gear, and Metal Gear Solid would be part of the Metal Gear Umbrella.

He probably means that is a spin-off without consequence to the MGS saga even if it is canon (and I accept is it) it doesn't replace or chance MGS in any form.

Its like the Metal Gear Acid games, different genre spin-off. Some people are judging MGR as if it were MGS5, we have Ground Zeroes and MGS5 to continue the main stealth franchise.

DmC is doing horrible when are you going to accept the facts. It won't even make it to their forecasted 1.2M combined and DmC had the same if not more marketing as MGR, pop outs in Gamestop, online and there was even a trailer shown before the latest Resident Evil movie. Absence of 5 years, bigger series, marketing, brand power, oh please enough just deal with it it flopped. Capcom has been silent for a month now while Kojima is already talking about a sequel, is over for DmC only Platinum can revive the series since Inaba is doing his dream game Dragon's Dogma 2.

Lol. Whatever you say its fine, but don't try and force me to accept your opinions. We all have our own opinions on sales, how they are achieved and we are each entitled to those opinions.

If you can't accept I think differently to you thats not my problem. Your going to have to deal with the fact everyone here is entitled to an opinion on the sales of the game, and why they are what they are.

And since when was it good for a 5 hour long game (MGR) to sell so many copies. Is making short games and charging full price for them the standard industry practice we want?

Celebrating spending $60 on a brand new game and finishing it within 5 hours is not an achievement I care to share.

Like I said I have my reasons for believing DmC was not as successful as it could've been, either way I see a lot of people who enjoyed the game, and I see a lot of videos on youtube of fans playing the game. Thats good enough for me.

Congrats PG, I love them :)

I'm not trying to change your opinion of the quality of the game I don't care if you like it or not thats subjective but you can't have opinion on sales facts and the fact is Capcom spend a lot of money on DmC, is a AAA game done by an outside studio, uses unreal engine instead of MT framework which would have been free, NT hired the same studio who did the Avatar mocap (from LA), it had a solid marketing effort and the whole point of the change was to gather more sales not less. Its a commercial flop, a commercial failure, it killed the franchise.

Then don't do it I'm not trying to sell you MGR, I don't care if it is 5 hours since they are 5 hours of fun for me (like Vanquish) and a lot of replay just for the fun of it. FF13 and GTA4 gave me 50 hours of boredom.

I'll put a spoke in the OP's wheel right now. Both of those games sales mean shit because once God of War comes out its all over. Bow down to the true all around hack n slash in terms of action, style and presentation. Long live western Hack N Slash!

Using that logic - Metal Gear Solid isnt part of the Metal Gear series then lol.

Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Rising (which I am sure is gonna end up becoming a series on its own) are part of the Metal Gear universe - hell even the creators mention it via the video I linked to you.

Also I'm pretty sure you are gonna be lost in some parts of the game (storyline wise) and the character development (on how a character is or why they are like that unless they do some sort of flash back).
---

Also about RE series....Code Veronica (from what I have found info on) was supposed to be RE3 <- dont take my word for it anyways. Also a list I found

These are all canon:
Resident Evil/REmake
Resident Evil 2
Resident Evil 3
Resident Evil Code: Veronica X
Resident Evil Zero
Resident Evil 4
Resident Evil 5
Resident Evil Revelations
Resident Evil 6

Resident Evil spin-off games that may have a lot or a little to do with the main story but are still considered canon :
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles (The new levels)
Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles (The new levels)
Resident Evil: Outbreak File 1 and 2
Resident Evil: Survivor
Resident Evil: Dead Aim

Non-Canon:
Resident Evil Gaiden
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City
Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D
Resident Evil: Degeneration (Game)
Resident Evil: Gun Survivor 2 (well, I guess it's canon if you want to consider the fact that it's just a dream Claire had.)

http://www.gamespot.com/resident-evil-6/forum/are-some-resident-evil-games-non-canon-64397725/

The above information (about RE may be true or not - dont take my word for it)

----------------------------------------

Just because it doesnt affect the main storyline doesnt mean its "Non-Canon".

Well no because Metal Gear Solid replaces and adds onto the original Metal Gear Games. If they continued making Metal Gear games, then MGS would be a different series, but they don't. Metal Gear Solid continues on what Metal Gear started, and expands on it.

Metal Gear Solid is to Metal Gear, what Super Mario 3D Platformers are to Super Mario Bros. It's the same series.

You yourself are admitting this in the bold when you say Metal Gear Rising will be its own series (to me it already is it's own game).

As for your example on Resident Evil, Code Veronica is technically a main series game, but it's not a main entry. You can skip Resident Evil CV and not be missing out on any story from RE 0-6. The events in CV are an isolated event. I haven't played Revelations yet, but I think it's the same. This would be similar to RE: Dead Aim, except the characters in CV appear in other RE games.

So like Rising, CV is not a main Resident Evil game. When they eventually do release a MGS6, the events in MGR will have little weight to the story, if any.

Actually, ODST is a main series game, but rather a sidequest that is apart of the overall story, much like Reach. Kojima admitted that MGR is cannon and happens after MGS4.

Well, yes, but this is getting way too technical and definitive. I agree with you.

Yup, exactly. So people aren't buying Metal Gear Rising thinking it's another main series game like Metal Gear Solid. People are buying it because:

A) It looks bad ass
B) Platnium Games previous works have been excellent titles (Vanquish and Bayonetta)
C) It's still Metal Gear, so it's probably good.

There are always going to die hard fans of a series who buy a game just because it has a brands name. Not to criticize Mario, but I bet you a lot of people pick up various Mario Spinoff games because they are Mario (e.g. Mario Golf). They are good games, but had they not been Mario Characters, the games would have sold much much more poorly.

What gives you the right to tell me I can't have an opinion of sales?

Do you have a link showing me how much money was spent on DmC? We don't know how much money was spent, and how much money it cost to make in comparasion to DMC4, bearning in mind its probably cheaper to make a game like this now than it was in 2007.

Anyway I'm not interested in your opinions. If your not happy with DmC, I suggest you go back to playing DMC4 with Nero and Kyrie. And I can easily say that DMC4 killed the series thats why the DmC sales are weaker. But I don't know if thats true, although I do think Nero and Kyrie did badly damage the series.
