lulz, headline looks way worse than it is.

5% vs. 13% vs. 11%. so wiiU misses by half-ish.

Actually it is Wii U 5%, X360 13.2%, PS3 13%, X720+PS4 11% (42.2% so far). Add ~58% working on mobiles for a total of 100%. So Wii U is getting almost the same western support as PS4 or X720 if that 11% is split 50-50.

Poor Vita/3DS/PC. They get, based on your numbers, -0.2% of developer love.

Well, I missed that Wii U gets 4.6%, not 5%. So they get 0.2% instead of -0.2%.

Yeah I do wonder where 3ds and vita come into this....

As someone who filled out the survey, the percentage numbers aren't mutually exclusive. You select "all that apply" so the percentages don't have to add up to 100%. If everyone was working on PS3 for example and only a few (5%) were working on a WiiU title, then you'd have 100% and 5%.

Yes GDC is skewed towards indie developers, large developers are still there (I met many of them). The difference is, for example, let's say 10 people from a dev team for a particular AAA dev team go to GDC (others left in the office to work), those 10 people represent that one company. A few small indie developers with a few people, all go (let's say 3 companies with 3, 3, 4 employees, all going) also contribute 10 people to the survey. You would read "OMFG 50% of all developers are working on mobile/indie games" when really it is 10 people vs 100s (the size of the big AAA company). Equating the percentages here to "man power or developers working on a title" is misleading.

58% percent of the companies said they were working on mobile titles (not surprising, EA, Square, Epic, etc. all make mobile titles) while 11% said PS3/xbox (also not surprising, it takes very large companies to make those games).

Well it seems the media sees Tablets/Smartphones >>>> Consoles >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Handhelds/PC for games.

if a team works on a title that comes to ps3 and 360 and the wiiU and the ps4 (like watch dogs is) clearly the percentages won't/can't add to 100%.  the article stated ps4 and next xbox are getting 11% attention (likely the same as games will be multiplat).  wiiU is getting only ~half attention.

it fits into here just fine.  the mathmatics in this chain of posts is fundamentally flawed.  read EncodedNybble's post.

Ah well, Nintendo managed without 3rd parties for the last 3 generations, I'm sure they'll be fine this one.

I'm sure I could log in to the GDC website to find exactly what questions I answered, but I'm too lazy for that right now. Pretty standard stuff. "What company do you work for? How large is the company? What platforms do you work on? What platforms are you interested in working on? What platforms will your next game come out on....stuff like that.

So, if my company was, say, Ubisoft and the next title was AC4, I would mark down "PS3, 360, PC, WiiU". As said before, not mutually exclusive, percentages don't have to add up to 100% (but no percentage should be above 100%)
