I don't think so. Maybe the Wii Experience is holding the Wii back. I mean, although the Wii sold very well, you could see in the last 2 years that software had a hard time selling apart from a few key games. Look at the top 100 Wii games and see how few games are in there from 2011 and 2012. And then compare it with the PS3 or the X360.
After all, despite the buzz of motion controls, they simply failed to deliver significantly. I mean, there are only few people who kept their interest. Nintendo attracted many non-gamer, but most of them will never come back a second time after they lost their interest the first time. That is the problem with trends. Look how far guitar games or Kawashimas Brain Age, SingStar etc have come.
I personally think the main problem with the new Wii is the controller. The games will come eventually, but the controller will stay. They should have made it optional...
What is the actual benefit of the second screen? You can't look at the TV and your controller at the same time. There are only a few situation where I think that this feature would have been useful. Asynchronous gameplay... no use at all if you are playing singleplayer games. Again, only useful in certain game situation.
Once again Nintendo is alienating many "core gamer" with a very special controller that was made the standard control scheme. I often wonder how many people were buying the Wii and the DS not "because of" but "despite" the new innovations. I think that many people just wanted to play the new Mario, Zelda, Metroid, etc.
