And just to be fair, I can't understand why you'd want an overpriced xbox 360 knock-off just so you can watch blu-ray movies, play a handful of AAA exclusives, enjoy an aggravatingly disorganized and laggy online network for multiplayer games.... albeit a free network.

Is there any time the 360 fanboy doesn't make the reference that having XBL makes their online better?  This isn't a mention of the download and install speed as one who has owned both consoles will say 360 wins that all day long, although the PS3 download speed has increased by three times since the last update, so it might actually be equal in download speed now.  Installs still take a bit.

Online multiplayer.  Apparently paying $35-$60 a year makes developer netcode better and increases your internet connection.  Here's an example.  I went to Youtube and did two searches.  Mortal Kombat ranked PS3 and Mortal Kombat ranked 360.  I chose the first ranked match to come up with the same player on both lists.

According to the players commentary, the PS3 version has a lag spike at one point during the match while the 360 match has lag all throughout.

The reason why I chose Mortal Kombat is that we know it has poor netcode.  So there was a chance that one of the games would have a worse connection.  It just so happens that the same player plays the exact same game on two different consoles and the 360 version has worse netcode.  To be fair if you get the next match down from the same user, from the commentary it seems there isn't lag from either match.

That being said.  The 360 having less lag in games is a myth and nothing more.  XBL doesn't give you a better connection.  It's all about the netcode.  If you want even further proof.  Google "Persona 4 Arena 360 issues."  Before the game released, the developers stated the game has lag issues on the 360 when playing multiplayer.  Afterwards, they released a patch to fix it and bring it on par with the PS3 version

Someone also mentioned thatt 360 owners cheat less or team kill less because they pay for their services..  Check out this video.  62-1 on Call of Duty Black Ops 2.  Paying to play certainly stops you from cheating.  Definitely.

Kupo, for starters I'm no fanboy. It's a mistake on your part to assume so simply because I chose to play  devil's advocate and defend the 360 in this particular thread. For every negative point one can level towards the xbox, there's a negative than can pointed towards the PS3.

I understand it's human nature to pick sides and defend preference, but those who do so with regard to which console they play on only serve to limit their gaming experience. People like forevercloud3000, who irrationaly dog one company over another, sadly miss out on the benefits of enjoying all three consoles. Whatever his reasons may be, as well as those of people like him, that dogmatic adherence to one company over another precludes them from being gamers. They might argue that, but real gamers enjoy games.. not systems.

I can't play Halo on PS3, or Gears, or Trials, or Mario

I can't play Uncharted on Xbox, or LBP, or God of War... etc.....

I'm no fanboy and contrary to people like forevercloud, these consoles are here for me, not the other way around. It baffles me that people can't seem to figure that one out.

As far as the connection issue, you can post all the links you like, PSN is simply not as stable as XBL. While the idea of an internet connection is a generic issue between XBL and PSN, the infastructure they use to connect you is different. The net code for a game on XBL is different than that of it's PSN counterpart because of the way connections are handled. While they both predominantly use P2P, the servers used by XBL to get you on the network are more stable and incur less lag than PSN servers. End result.. a smoother, more secure connection... and yes, I pay a yearly subscription for that one, incredibly important, advantage.

Here... my buddy has both systems, but when we play COD we play it on Xbox Live. Same house, same game, same internet provider, different systems... we consistenly get more bars on xbox live than PSN and we've tested this at least a dozen times. The number of times we'd been dropped out of lobbies on PSN vs Live was such an issue, we simply stopped playing versus matches on third-party titles through his PS3.

There's really nothing more to argue there. If you have a friend with both systems, try it out with an identical game on both systems. See for yourself instead of posting subjective links from youtube.

for consumers like us, simply buying a console for it being our brand of choice, isn't justifiable if the comp offeres a better/cheaper product!

"When the Original Xbox came out, I was interested. Games like Fable and Jade Empire almost had me. Yet I already had a PS2, wth FF and a hefty load of games that were exclusive to it. I decided I would wait to get the Xbox after it became much cheaper. When the New consoles were finally released I though this was my chance to snag one for a bargain......then it happened. MS officially cut off Xbox shortly after 360's release, this was in complete contrast to how the PS2 still thrived for several years, just like the PS1 did. The way it was immediately discontinued, most ofthe games were field destroyed, just erased....didn't sit well at all with me. I still feel like this is a mantra MS might still hold. More on that later...."

So... did you actually buy an Xbox or not? I don't have a problem with a company shifting away from a console when a new one comes out. They do it with games all the time. It's just part of the business. It's one thing to continue selling a product when its profitable and there is demand for it. The Xbox sold 24,000,000 and MS lost billions on it. There was no reason for them to keep sinking money into it instead of starting fresh with the 360. And this is its 8th year on the market. Which just proves the point, if its profitable and has demand, companies will support it. Lets see what Sony does with the Vita.

"RROD. MS ignored the many warnings they got from their tech experts to delay the 360's launch so they could figure out a more viable heat syncing solution. MS big wigs could have cared less, because beating Sony to the punch was truly all that mattered. A electronic device with over 40% failure rate that wasn't immediately pulled from market is unheard of. MS's solution to this was to give you a 3 yr warrenty(from LAUNCH and not buy date) where they would fix your console......just so it would break again a month later. In MS's defense, many bring up the PS2's higher than normal failure rate....yet that was small time in comparison really. It was only a rate of like 8%. While working at Gamestop, I watched people buy console after console simply because they kept breaking. When the main reason you chose one console over the next was due to it's low price yet the cost of replacing it comes out to way more.............priceless."

Where are you getting this 40% stuff from? I have never seen anything close to that. Industry warranty providers did tests on thousands of units and got a RROD rate nowhere near 40%. There is no denying that the 360 was rushed to the market and suffered some hardware issues as a result. But they're not the only company to have too many hardware issues. MS has the Red Ring of Death. Sony has the Yellow Light of Death. Sony also had the Disc Read Error. And they don't provide extra warranty for either of these issues. However, all I care about is that with the newer chipsets for the last 5-6 years or more, it hasn't been an issue because they fixed it. I also understand that the 360 is successful and profitable, and they milked it for 8 years. This tells me they aren't rushing into next gen this time. I also understand you're at the mercy of manufacturers any time you adopt early. Don't think there won't be speed bumps for both consoles next gen as well for us early adopters.

"Timed Exclusivity: A ridiculous  trade off from real exclusivity if you ask me. I always felt full exclusive games encouraged the best kind of  competition. Mario's success would spur Crash, GT would ignite PGR/Forza, etc, etc. The fact that there are less exclusives these days means there is less reason to buy any particular console(which is what MS wanted) but it also means developers don't have to try nearly as hard to court a fanbase.....and most often, Multiplats feel like a poor man's exclusive Version."

How does MS get the blame for less exclusives nowadays lol. Games are more expensive than ever to make and companies need to maximize the return they get for making them. Furthermore lets not act as if Sony did not secure timed exclusive GTA games last gen. Or timed exclusive content this gen. The days of one console getting tons of 3rd party exclusives are gone. Now publishers are finding new ways to make money. So you get timed exclusive content. Exclusive content in general. Pre-order bonus content. Retailer exclusive content. Publishers and their mismanagement of projects and bloated budgets are more to blame for this than Sony or MS. And there can be plenty of competition whether games are 1st or 3rd party. You're looking at things from a forum console war perspective, not from a reality perspective. When Activision is readying the next Call of Duty, they don't consider Crysis or Battlefield to be less competition than Killzone or Halo just because they are 3rd party games. They're trying to make the best game available no matter what. They're not going to release a half-assed or "poor mans" version of a game just because they don't really have to try hard.

"Total Abandonment of the Hardcore Gamer in the last 3 years. MS has shown time and time again, that their fanbase is just a name and number. They are only as valuable as how much money they are bringing them. Now this isn't news to us about any business. Sony and Nintendo also want your hard earned dollar. Yet MS completely abandoned the groups that gave them their early success as they no longer needed to appeal to them, they already had you (like some douche college stud who sleeps around for the conquest and nothing more). Once they felt they had the "Hardcore Vote" already, the Hardcore centric games became scarce, and the new Casual push began. This is what 360 fans put up with out of complacency for the last 3 years. MS felt as long as they give their fans 2 key franchises a year(an alternation between Forza,Gears, Halo) that their fanbase would stay TAMED."

This is a common opinion among people who don't like MS much and all I wonder when I see opinions like this is hey.. where have you been the last 8 years? MS has always given us Forza and Fable and Halo and Gears. Then they release smaller games here and there, then publish/secure awesome XBLA content you can't play on Sony or Nintendo's consoles, and secure exclusive/timed exclusive content for the multiplatform games. You harp on the last 3 years.. what's been different about this strategy? It's the same, only now they also release a ton of Kinect stuff. There's a conspiracy theory that this has somehow taken their focus off the hardcore gamer, that's simply not true. Also, Nintendo relies on their bread and butter too. And if Sony could find some bread and butter aside from Uncharted, they'd rely on it too. Lord knows they have tried to find their Halo this gen.

"Charging for what everyone else give for free. We already pay a premium for the internet, why are you paying for a glorified "Membership" that gives you what you rightfully should of had for free? News Flash people, there is very little XboxLive does that PS3 doesn't, contrary to popular beleif. The only true feature of note is XGC.....an overhyped feature from those who are trying to justify that annual fee. Well come PS4 time, you will no longer have that excuse. Vita already has XGC, PS4 will allow it across multiple devices. PS+ is already garnering  far more appeal of late, with its constant sales, free game givaways, auto updates, exclusive betas/demos......on the regular! PS+ isn't required to get basic funtion out of your device, yet people are flocking to it for its REAL value it offers up to you."

The only people that hype up cross game chat are people like yourself when you're trying to explain why XBLG is not worth it. This is by far my favorite line that people use when doing this. You never see actual paying customers of XBLG make a huge deal about cross game chat. It's always people who think the service is a rip off pointing to that feature like it's the Holy Grail. Comparing PS+ to XBLG is stupid, one gives you access to an online network, the other is a discount service. Value is subjective. Also, got any links about how it's garnering "far more appeal"? I'd expect detailed timelines of memberships for each service.

"Cheap scating to APPEAR cheaper. This baffled me when this gen started. Sure, the PS3 was 600 big ones, but in actuality the 360 was just around, if not more. Think about it. Original 360's were coming with no HDMI port, needed batteries for controllers(expensive rechargeable pack sold seperately), no Wifi Built in (When even the damn Wii did), and of course required a Live Sub to play online. Oh but it came with a headset tho....... The system was built around you buying what appears to be a real bargain in comparison to the competition, then get you on the 50million peripherals that will at some point become a necessity."

Please explain to use how HDMI, Wifi, or XBLG are each a neccessity. That should be a good read.

1. No I didn't buy one, because their actions toward the end scared me away, just as their actions towards the middle of 360's life scared me away from it.

2.Was actually being generous with that figure in comparison to what some reports say. 33-54% depending on who you talk to.

http://consumerist.com/2009/08/17/xbox-360-failure-rate-is-542-percent-game-informer-finds/

3. Um seriously? MS moneyhatted most exclusives to break exclusivity contracts with Sony in the beginning, after a while, everyone else had to follow suite. I always felt like the quality on the average genre has fallen due to the uprise of everything being Multiplatform. Not that they all are bad, but that they are usually lacking to me in some way. RPGs for instance, which is my fav genre, have become strange shadow versions of themselves. Look at Crash Bandicoot as an exclusive, then look at it as the MP abomination it is now....THATS how I feel about many MPs.

4. You can't make that as if I'm the only one saying this. Just look through this thread. Many 360 OWNERS are saying this, not just me.

5.You can't pretend that 360 hardcore don't bring up XGC as the reason why they prefer it over PS3 either. Its just common knowledge.

5.How is HDMI not important?????? Everything is HD, regular SD has been phased out by Television stations all together. Some TVs no longer have AV/RF ports. The fact the original didn't have one meant they really had no forsight, or they didn't care as it would just mean many consumers would just run out for another version...which they did. PSN has come a long way since its inception. Sure, it was a bubling mess in the beginning, but now it virtually stands toe to toe with Live, and going into Next Gen it is sounding like PS4 will far surpass anything MS can do(we wil see). So when the competition is offering all those things standard/in the package deal, what is their excuse? You might find that these things are necessarily "needed" for your gaming pleasure, but the huge numbers of people who bought those peripherals just so their console could be competent did. Shit, from many of the people I have spoken to, the built in Wifi and better heat sync were at the top of the list for reasons to get the 360 slim.

Not really.  I could easily make points agains this.

And didnt this thread turn out exactly how I said it would?

All it takes is another Halo sequel, then another Halo prequel followed by a sequel and then somewhere in between a Gears of War sequel. And last but not lest some exclusive halo map packs.

i know you can make points against it. MS main franchises over the past 3 yr's have been Halo, GEARS, and Forza. Kinect is for talking to your friends from COD.

srry i haven't read the other post.

For the last four years Microsoft has left a taste in the mouths of gamers that they truly don't care what they think. We all know they'll make up for it in the beginning of the gen, but lets see if they can hold onto the promises they've broken by sticking with gaming throughout the whole time they have their console out. Of course, they can pander to the casuals all they want, but lets not forget the people who brought you to the position to which you've become accustomed.

Atleast MS didn't take away features.

Go Team Venture! I still don't get the Wii, PS Move,  and Kinect.

You're on an English speaking site and the 360 is stomping the ps3 by what 16-18 million in English speaking countries? I could care less what it does in the Asian market where the ps3 makes up most of it's marketshare. I see the nextbox getting even more dominant in this market. Even with all it's pricecuts the ps3 can't outsell the 360 here. I mean really, when was the last time you saw or heard a ps3 mentioned in a movie or tv show? The only place the ps3 is dominating in these markets is internet forums like this one lol.

 WII Code: 1732 3363 1704 6441

how has MS forgotten the hardcore gamers exactly?... what, because they haven't offered up any new, exclusive IP's lately?
how silly.
look at the games released over the last six months and the games still coming, third party or not, if you can still say that MS and their Xbox brand have forgotten all about the hardcore gamer, then you're obviously not a hardcore gamer and just looking for ammunition to troll with.
seriously what a stupid thing to say.
Oh well, back to Crysis 3....
