Forums - Sony - Does Playstation 4 revolutionize GAMES?

If the Killzone demo is any indication.. sadly no, not even a little.

I'll say it again - there hasn't been a revolutionary games over the past 2 gens so I don't know what TC is expecting. It just seems to me that some people post without thinking.

revolution... whatever.. What more are you expecting to get from games without dismissing it as some weird gimmick you don't actually want?..

Too early to tell, but from a gameplay aspect? Unlikely.

A social one? Maybe.

In what ways could we have new revolutionary gameplay?  That's an honest question too. What do you want to see in changes to gameplay?   The way I see it animations, physics, etc. have gotten better every generation, but games always play mostly the same and will continue to play the same.  Maybe I just can't visualize how gameplay could change that much.

That's my point; I can't see a way we could revolutionise gameplay. Arguably the Wii did it, and obviously 3D and anologue sticks before that, but now? I don't know, and I don't see how the PS4 could change that.

Could be wrong, though, but it's too early to tell from here.

I don't really think any of the big three can come up with even better ways to play games.  IMO nintendo had a one hit wonder with the wii and the wii u isn't really that revolutionary.   It's unique, but it's not setting the world on fire.  MS to me seems to be focusing too much on gimmick mostion controls with kinect, but that could change once they show the nexbox.  And sony is sticking with the standard controller, but just adding more social aspects to it, which seem really cool to me, but I can't say I will use them all the time.

I think most people want them to just stick with the standard controller.  I had the wii and have ps move, but it still doesn't compare to just sitting on a couch relaxing with a controller in your hand.

There's no point in revolutionizing gaming. That just sounds silly. Expanding gaming is the better route.

I am the Playstation Avenger.

That sculpture "Minecraft" for the Move with CGI Quality Graphics is one of the big contenders.
Its a complete new style of game and a complete new touch on the building genre.
And probably the first game that makes sense with motion controls that are flawless.

Otherwise we will see.
Naughty Dog is the revolution already in this Gen with The Last of Us.
They do what no one has ever done before on any platform > Insanely good AI and a "Always different every playthrough" approach on situations.
This is the biggest stepping stone in this whole Gen and we will see how often we will see this in the NextGen and how much the AI is improving thanks to the power of new consoles.
We will see what Sony Devs can come up with in the NextGen.

The console it self?
No - Its just another probably black box with more power, higer resolutions and other technical features that are available elsewhere.
The real innovation and evolution is done with software and here only Sony has the developers to do so.

Revolutionary games? There hasn't been a single revolutionary game in the past 10 years (except maybe Journey).

I really hope that you are kidding.

Could virtual reality be on the horizon?

Nope

the wiiu gamepad is a revolution in console gameplay.
