Forums - Gaming - Have you ever seen another console get as much media attention as the PS4 is getting before its annoucement?

No one can tell. Honestly.

Plus, people respond if they like PlayStation as yes, maybe and if they do not like it as maybe, or no. The speculation on here is at mushroom trip levels of fantasy. Then we have to wait until launch. I mean really it is cool, but if I did not visit gaming sites daily like with most previous console launches I would have no clue as then, plan and simple.

Well the "See the Future" video has 6.7 million views. And that's just the main one, I've seen another that has over 1 million. The evolution videos almost average 400k views. Facebook has over 400k people talking about PlayStation right now. Only 160k for Xbox, 52k for Nintendo, just for comparison.

You act as though this is surprising? Playstation is obviously going to be the buzz word today, and likely for the next week or so. Then it'll be the Xbox's turn. When similar statistics to this come out showing the 720 miles ahead of everything else I wonder if people will be so quick to jump on it then.

Also, I can't be the only one to have an underlying feeling of the event being a massive letdown, surely?

i am sure there is PLENTY of people feeling that way...

I just hope I'm wrong, I so want it to be awesome!

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

So basically this whole thread is screwed up because of the OP saying one thing but meaning another. We all agree the PS4 has less media attention than other systems if we include pre-launch (since it hasn't even been announced yet), and we all agree the PS4 has more media attention if we only include pre-announcement.

That's Proffessor Joe's verdict.

I think it's pretty clear with anyone with a keen understanding of time that doesn't have some sort of agenda or competitive reaction to the event tomorrow. There is some stepping on toes sure, but you can't compare something that hasn't happened yet. We are talking about pre announce hype, period.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

This is the first time you made me really laugh

I think its mainly gaming sites that are hyping up the 20th, outside of that I am not really seeing anything.

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

I am struggling to remember any console's announcement being headline news outside of the gaming community.

The two biggest selling (including online) newspapers in the UK ran some crazy articles about it's power and showed some mockup PS4s pointing to the 20th.

Another bestselling newspaper The Times even had "inside information"  that the price will be £300.00.

I cannot speak for the rest of the world but in the UK pretty much all the big newspapers have mentioned something about the PS4 and the 20th Feb.

I never expected anymore than that from the press until after the annoncement.

I am not sure if the wii u was mentioned by the press before or after the official announcement.

The last generations annoncements was like centuries ago and I really can't remember what they were like.

I was only talking about pre annoucement. I messed up on the topic though, you're right there.

The internet is basicaly ''Sony Land''. If the hype on the internet for anything sony related was representative of real life PSABR would have sold 5millions units by now, Star Hawk and Twisted Metal would have sold 3millions and the Vita would be the best selling handheld ever.

Well Sony did take over the gaming industry when the internet was just starting. Twisted Metal, Starhawk and other games werent majorly hyped. Those were always niche titles, but they were Sony first party and published.
