Forums - Nintendo - WiiU Dragon Quest X to launch in Japan March 30!

But in terms of helping to boost console sales, I doubt it, at least not in the West. Will probably give it a nice boost in Japan though for awhlie, they are crazy for the series there.

It would've a great boost in japan if it was a traditional DQ game. Unfortunately its an MMO, so would prolly give a small boost.

Well it certainly helped the Wii when it launched, so I'd imagine it will help the Wii U as well.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

I think it might boost sales a little. More importantly, though, will it launch outside of Japan anytime soon? I'd really like to play it.

You're joking i hope? Both DQ Swords and DQ X Boosted Wii sales about 30k in Japan, with sales falling almost back to normal levels the week after.

A late port of a game that sold poorly won't do what late ports of games that sold better didn't.

It's still a boost though, no? Even if it's a small one.

It'll probably be a little bigger than, say, Persona launching on Vita last year. The big reason I say that is because every Premium Wii U bundle comes with a Beta Demo of the game. That's got to count for something!

This is pretty much the only Q1 game in Japan that is going to make any sales inroad, so they'll have to hope it does well.

Does the Wii version of DQX work on Wii-U, out of interest?

I can see it performing fairly decently. There will be people out there who would've been waiting for this version, and I can imagine the game as a whole working much better on the gamepad. That said, I don't think it'll skyrocket the console; just provide a boost for a week or two.

Sorry i thought you where implying that it would give a huge boost and solve the Wii-U's problem, but yes every boost counts at this point.

That's an interest point, the Wii version should work on the Wii-U, though i'm not sure if the online servers support it.

I'd imagine so, you need some sort of USB expansion so I'd imagine the Wii U version would do better sales-wise, but I just don't know really.

DQX would have done far more for the Wii and Wii U if it wasn't an MMO. It will give a brief, moderate boost, but it won't be a long term fix; for that the Wii U will need games like Mario Kart and Smash Bros.
