I must have been 10 or 11 but I was given a choice, gas or IV. But then the nurse came and just put in the IV. Good thing, too. I had a little bit of needle-phobia but it was nothing (and the whole experience helped me overcome that, from the blood-drawing to the IV) and the best part was that it doesn't linger like gas can. I felt 100% fine and alert as soon as I woke up. (the fact that it was a very minor surgery may have helped)
But as I remember it was instant. One moment you're there, the next, you're waking up somewhere else.
