Forums - Sony - Stop calling the Origional playstation....PSX

Honestly I never heard anyone call it PSX until I came to these forums, at first I was like wth is a PSX? But then it became obvious that they were talking about the playstation. It does not really bother me though that they call it that.

And for the other 18 years noone has ever called it PSX in my lifetime. Just my observation you do not have to be butthurt about it.

*AHEM*

ButtHurt 3122 up, 862 down
An inappropriately strong negative emotional response from a perceived personal insult. Characterized by strong feelings of shame. Frequently associated with a cessation of communication and overt hostility towards the "aggressor."

- There was no personal insult directed at me, hence the term "butthurt" does not apply in the least.

I am merely irritated by your mindless post.

It was called PSX by people that actually played it BEFORE the revised PSOne came out. I, and many others, moved on to PS2 in 2001, and we subsequently still referred to it as the PSX because that's what we'd been doing for 3 years.

It's no surprise that no-one under the age of 24 recognizes the term.

That's the fucking point.

I got the Official UK PS magazine here in South Africa and as such I've been aware of the usage of 'PSX' since 1997. Just because you don't know something doesn't mean everyone else doesn't.

Kinda makes it funny that you're getting your panties in a twist.

Calling the PS is PSX is just like calling the 360 the Xenon.

All that has been shown is that game reporters back then obviously weren't the brightest sparks.

No it's not like calling the 360 the Xenon. Here are some key differences:

1) Xenon refers to the 360's processor. PSX was a codename for the console.

2) No-one ever called the 360 the Xenon. Usage of PSX was widespread.

From Wiki:

"The PlayStation (Japanese: プレイステーション Hepburn: Pureisutēshon?, officially abbreviated as PS; sometimes referred to as PS1, or unofficially as the PSX[10]"

My conclusion?

You don't know how to use analogies in the slightest.

Xenon referes to the 360 code name, just as PSX referes to the PS' code name.

There is absolutely no difference.

My conclusion: You don't know how to click a reference link.

"10^ PS-X (PlayStation Experimental) was an internal code name for the PlayStation during development.[9] The popular use of the "PSX" abbreviation outside Sony became a source of confusion when Sony Of Japan ignored Sony of America's decision and introduced its PSX digital video recorder in 2003."

No one I knew called it the PSX before the PSone version came about or the PS2. It was just the PS. Maybe this is more of a US vs EU thing, but I see some for the US using the term PSX as well. I guess it depends on what mags people were reading, or what forums they followed.

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

I call it "The first Playstation".

Ask stefl1504 for a sig, even if you don't need one.

Still calling it PSX regardless of what anyone says.

Type in PSX on google images and you will see the original Playstation 1. (Although not disagreeing with the fact that you mention the pseudo PS1/PS2 system).

Why not call the Wii the Wii U, the PS2 the PS3 and the xbox the xbox 360? And for shits & giggles, let's call the SNES the N64.

PSX is not, never has been, and never will mean the original Playstation.

Also, let's call "left" right and "up" down.

People do call the Wii-U "Wii" still - I know some people who call it that ;O

The PS2 isnt called the PS3 cause of the number silly! Y u no count ;O

I know some people who call the Xbox360 the Xbox. No one where I live call the Xbox360 a "360" or X360" they call it the Xbox.

Also Super Nintendo is confused to be "Nintendo" - not Nintendo 64, Nintendo 64 is Gamecube learn to confuse D:!?

Just like the Wii is 2 Gamecubes put together or was it 3? Hell some people consider the 3DS to be a Nintendo DS still!

Left to right? People already do that with car seats and toilets flush the opposite way in the other side of the world - hell even Hurricanes/Typhoons do it opposite!

Anyways time for me to go play a PSX game l0l

.....So in short calling the PS the PSX is like calling the Xbox the Xenon.

K, ciao.

Why does it bug you so much?

Because it's a different console! A lot like how people confuse (3)DS and Wii(U).
