Forums - Nintendo - ‘Dragon Quest X’ sales below expectations- Since when? I thought it was doing well?

My statement still stands as FF MMO's do obviously worse than most (if not all) FF RPG's.

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=5113586 That should help you understand a little more of that I was going for.

But did you seriously think I meant no one wanted their MMO's? If so, then you probably should've thought a little more about that. I was exaggerating!

Ok Pie. You're pretty smart for your age so I'll cut you some slack. But when he mentions FFXI, don't say you were talking about FFXIV! k.

I was talking about FFXIV, though. I thought that was the only FF MMO, that's why I didn't specify in my earlier post about which one I was talking about and why I defended what I said by bringing up FFXIV. (Probably should've searched to see if there were more...)

Do you not agree that these MMO's sell worse than these RPG's though? I would think that's something we could all agree on!

Yes, but it's a known fact that an MMO isn't judged on its upfront sales, but on its subscription revenue. That's in favor of these numbers, so I agree with you. But, to say there isn't a market for SE's MMOs is losing sight of one of its successes, e.g. FFXI.

But none of those games are on Wii....

While it's tough to do straight comparisons, I don't think anyone would try and argue that you should pick Wii and friend codes for your online platform over Live and PSN.

For example, in Monster Hunter Tri, I don't remember having to exchange friend codes. I doubt it's different in DQ.

Iirc, in Tri, you could look up a user by username and play with him/them.

That's a vey bad comparison though. MH isn't like an MMO at all. You had a tavern where you could participate (which is just a single room) and you loaded a stage from there. This is nothing in there that makes a game a MMO.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

Okay, but the point is in the online infrastructure, that was your point right? Okay if you played Tri (which I understand you did), there is nothing that required the exchange of friend codes and the quality of the service was all Capcom's design. I'm not sure why that's different here.

Now having said all that, I'm pretty convinced that the Wifi card included in the Wii is slow in comparison to the one in the 360, that or the 360 is just more potent in processing the packets and in just general processing.

It's doing well, trust me. If you have nearly half a million subscribers then your game is doing well. It's probably one of the main reasons Squeenix isn't posting even larger losses. Dragon Quest has always pulled its own weight in sales and profitability. Final Fantasy, of late, hasn't been as reliable.

FF11 was an mmo, so clearly people wanted a SE mmo. They just haven't been able to capture the magic since then.

It still didn't sell as good as other FF's. I was talking about unit sales, but yeah, for an MMO it did good.

So? It made them more money then any FF game with far less of a userbase over time I bet DQX can go on to do the same over time.
