Actually it is a epiphany when you realize that your view of your self in contrast to society as a whole was actually entirely wrong. I always considered myself to be out on the margins, but tonight it struck me after looking at some sobering statistics that I was actually part of a movement that was picking up some serious steam. Epiphanies aren't always about ones self, but sometimes about oneself in relation to other people.

Are you kidding me? Christianity has about 2.2 billion followers worldwide (which is almost 1/3 of the entire world) and it's still spreading in Africa, Oceania and some parts of Asia. Atheism (Agnosticism to be more precise) is only on the rise in the countries that were never much christian to begin with really...(Scandinavia, balitc countries and lately UK)

EDIT: Even if Christianity were to dwindle in the West, its still quite strong in South America, Eastern Europe, South Africa and some parts of Asia. Then there are also Islamic regions where atheism is almost non-existant, as well as hindusitic regions. The only place irreligion has a chance to take over is Western Europe and maaaybe USA but that could take couple of centuries

That's not good for multiple reason's

I don't think we'll see the extinction of Christianity very soon - if ever. They'll survive as some odd cult at the very least. But if we're looking at what Christianity has become, none is true Christians any more. I mean, how many people are stoning gays? Or selling their daughters as slaves? Not a whole lot of them. So I'd call todays Christians for... Post-modern Christians; they have adopted a much more modern way of looking at things, or THEY would be the ones getting stoned...

But I'm glad to live in a world where more and more people are becoming Atheists - in no way can that be a bad sign of things to come. I just wish we'd see more of this also happening in the Middle East...

Please stay within reality. Also, please learn the difference between regional declines and heading for extinction. And maybe learn that believing in creationism doesn't preclude believing in extinction... at all.

FYI, just because people think your premise is asinine doesn't mean they're off topic. For someone who fancies himself to be a free thinker, you sure seem to have a problem with people disagreeing with you. I guess this thread is ironic after all.

I dont see it on the decline at all. Sure many pepole are against organized religion, but the amount of jesus or christian posts i see on facebook tell me there are plenty of believers out there. I dont know how you could honestly think it is going extinc. Heck even every us president has strong christian ties to some church. Even in CA there are churches all over. Is there even a decline in church membership? Or do you just think its getting smaller?

Can't read? There's a nice little section for Christian, and it's fading - down 5% in 5 years . The is a polling firm, they don't go church to church, they make phone calls and take internet polls. So why would organized church have anything to do with it? It wouldn't.

Not once does it mention Christian. With wording like that people were probably confused. Many people who believe in Christ do not belong to one of those churches, and whith out saying Christian in there(i wonder why they didn't) they may have chose the wrong option. So its not a great info, and may not be accurate. Can't read? they list their question right there?
