Costumer's fault, READ THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL. By the way, those guys at Gamestop should know that, that is why that company is not profitable anymore (not their fault, but they could give some help).
HEY GUYS, OPERATION MANUAL Wii U, END OF PAGE 53, "If your Wii U system does not operate correctly after trying the troubleshooting steps, DO NOT return the console to the store. You may lose saved game data, Nintendo eShop downloads, and any balance left in your Nintendo eShop account. For additional troubleshooting and repairs options visit support.nintendo.com, or call 1-800-255-3700."
There you go, when i don't know something before calling support I go to my OPERATION MANUAL.
NINTENDO WAS MORE THAN COOL BY GIVING THIS GUY AT LEAST 50% BACK. YOU SEE, NINTENDO IS THE BEST.

Reading? Instruction Manual?

No one does those things anymore!

I might be missing something here, but when I transferred my data from my Wii to my Wii U, the system REPEATEDLY says this is a permanent process and that the games and account history will ONLY be accessible on the new Wii U system. Sooooooo, I think it's his own fault for not reading the MULTIPLE messages telling him this through the process and then just swapping the Wii U for another one.

I am glad Nintendo worked it out, that's a credit to Nintendo for good customer service. But yeah, the only one who was at fault was "Jon"

You ARE missing something indeed. How was he to know that the system would break down?

"My Wii U console would flash its red power light when I tried to turn it on," he told me in an e-mail. "I let it go for days, and kept trying. It just was not a reliable system."

You can't transfer the data without being able to turn on the Wii U.  If the Wii U never turned on, the problem never would have happened.  It worked for a while at least and during the transfer process.

If it was the customer's fault, why did he get money from Nintendo?

So everybody should read dozens of dozens of instructions now to know not to return it. That's great.

You have not worked in customer service have you?  It's not an admition of guilt.  You take care of unreasonable customers, even if they are at fault, because they will create an incorrect bad perception of the company and hurt more business than the cost to take care of them

Was this the same with the Wii?

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

It was guys fault, but Nintendo is too kind and sensitive with this kind of shit that they gave him the money back, actually this is rather good news Pezus

Different shops for there consoles, bloody ludicrous if i do get a wii u or 3ds eventually i will be staying well clear of there digital services, what an absolute farce.

Nintendo should be extremely ashamed, this can only be because they have decided to do it all in house and have absolutely not clue. Come on Ninty get some experts in and pay to get your stores unified and games tied to accounts not bloody consoles.

Just copy the online model of Sony ffs! Let people have access to their downloads on multiple devices, give us the ability to deactivate them, give us the ability to have more than 1 account on a console.

This is the reason I never bothered with the DL contents of wii and Nintendo handhelds.

I know. He could transfer, but he didn't expect it to break down which is why, I'm guessing, that he didn't notice or remember the warnings. Doesn't change the fact that limiting it to 1 console is idiotic in this day and age. Would it have been his fault if it was stolen?

It's not his fault it broke.  But didn't notice the warnings?  Didn't remember?  You have not done this process obviously, and he either didn't read ANY instructions on how to transfer the data or blatantly ignored the warnings.  Either way, his fault.

And it would be terrible if he got his Wii U stolen.  Though, seems to me like Nintendo would end up taking care of him.

I am not arguing the 1 console account limit is the best way.  I've had my own issues with this.  But, in this specific instance you are talking about, all the fault completely falls on 'Jon'
