Forums - Gaming - Take Two: PS4 And Xbox 720 Game Development Costs To Be Similar To Current Gen Consoles

nba 2k14 confirmed

What does he mean by "if next gen consoles do arrive"?...'if'?...really?

Well, given that GTA V is rumored to cost +130$ mil, I'll take whatever he says with a pinch of salt.

Please excuse my bad English.

Former gaming PC: i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Current gaming PC: R5-7600, 32GB RAM 6000MT/s (CL30) and a RX 9060XT 16GB

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

Sounds plausible.

Obviously as time goes on games cost little bit more what with new tech. But if these means next gen games cost 60$ I will be happy.

sounds good as similar costs mean similar game and quality supply=that's great(ignoring the past two 360 years)
Massivly increasing costs for next gen would have cut down AAA titles 50% and almost no new AAA IP"s as the risks are too high.
Same costs= the chances ps360 staying or Meh U becoming leading platform with just upscaled versions for next gen are pretty small=great graphics.

Well, GTA 4 was US$ 100 mil and it looked like a PS2 game in HD and had a world considerably smaller than San Andreas. GTA 5 has much better graphics and will have a world bigger tha San Andreas (and that is really large, it was even bigger than Skyrim). So a 30% increase in costs if we consider the massive improvement doesn't looks to be a problem.

How would that even work?

More power has always meant more cost.

I am confused.

I LOVE ICELAND!

I would hope so, the leap in costs for this gen has really hurt many devs and for them to get even larger would cause even more problems

That was clear. I mean the new systems will have similar visuals with higher polycount and better textures and higher resolution.

The resolution thing is not important for development in terms of costs.

The textures are usually higher than what we see in games anyway and are just down converted for the weak consoles.

The polycount is also usually higher and then is reduced a little bit for the same reason. (before the game comes out all the models are checked and if the game is running to slow they reduce the poly count even more etc.)

So its no wonder that the new consoles will have similar dev costs.

P.S. Dev costs  were reduced to achive the same results  during the 7 year period of this generation  so even if dev costs are a lot bigger than today  they should not exceed the 2005/6 cost/quality ration by alot.

Which makes me wonder if they will price games at $/€ 70.
