Well, given that GTA V is rumored to cost +130$ mil, I'll take whatever he says with a pinch of salt.

Well, GTA 4 was US$ 100 mil and it looked like a PS2 game in HD and had a world considerably smaller than San Andreas. GTA 5 has much better graphics and will have a world bigger tha San Andreas (and that is really large, it was even bigger than Skyrim). So a 30% increase in costs if we consider the massive improvement doesn't looks to be a problem.

GTA 4 was a lot of things, but "a PS2 game in HD" was not one of them, and an increase of 30% in dev costs during one gen is huge.

The difference (if we asume that from the 60$ that cost a game, 10 go to the store, another 10 to MSoft/Ninty/Sony and the other 40 to the publisher) is that you go from selling 2mil games when the budget is 100mil to 3.3millions.

Sure, for games like GTA, CoD, etc. those sales are easy, but for those games that cost 20mil and need to sell 500k to break even, a 30% increase means selling 650k just to not lose money. Yes, the games will look prettier, but how many will sell enough?

Please excuse my bad English.

This is good news.

Take Two games would cost a lot less, if Rockstar didn't need 5+ years to make games.

How would that even work?

More power has always meant more cost.

I am confused.

More power usually mean more details and more work, which means more cost. But if they are already creating 3D models with the extra details and re-scalling for the current consoles, more power will not mean a lot more cost.

Another possibility is that now with the Wii U, maybe they can split costs in 3 consoles, not just 2, so even if the overall cost increases, the indiviual cost of each version will remain the same.

Another possibility is that the power increase is not so big, so making almost the same game but in 1080p and 60fps will not increase cost also. It will depend on the developers approach.

Sports game sure....but not massive game worlds.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

With time and more efficient hardware more power gets cheaper

That's moore's law for hardware.

So far it hasn't applied for software though. Costs have always gone up with every console generation due to the increasing amounts of sophisticated code that needs to be written, increased quantity and complexity of art assets, etc.

I LOVE ICELAND!

They already downgrade games for current consoles, then you have dev tools getting far easier.
