I couldn't agree more. Then again everything is about business now, isn't it? The beauty of our modern world...

Yoshida said they are going to focus on fewer titles from now on. As a gamer it makes me sad but I understand it makes more sense from a Business point of view. All we can do is hope for the best

oh and kotaku updated the article..superbot is not closing down

Kotaku updated their post with a statement:

UPDATE: In an e-mail, SuperBot's president David Yang responded to Kotaku's request for comment, saying that the company is "excited about beginning the next chapter of [their] future."

The full statement follows:

SuperBot Entertainment can confirm that the relationship with SCEA has ended on good terms. We are extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to work on with Sony on Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, and are extremely proud of the work we have done. SuperBot Entertainment will continue working on projects that reflect our passion for games and our commitment to creating award winning titles. We are very excited about beginning the next chapter of our future and invite all of our fans and supporters to follow our journey.

Does this mean the IP technically belongs to them, or Sony? I'm confused...

Please tell me how PASBR is a fighting game and SSBB isn't.

I dont consider neither fighting games, they're party brawlers.

How come? Is this a new genre?

Wikipedia speaks the truth

Even that... it's under fighting games

FranchiseDeveloperSales
Tekken Namco 41.4 million (as of 2011)[110][111]
Super Smash Bros. Nintendo 33.78 million (as of 2009)[112]
Street Fighter Capcom 33 million (as of 2007)[113]
Mortal Kombat Midway/Warner Bros. 26 million (as of 2007)[114]
Soul Namco 13.38 million (as of 2012)[115]
Dead or Alive Tecmo

7.95 million (as of 2008)[116]

I see it as a party brawler, there is nothing competitive about it. I wouldn't categorize it with Tekken or Street Fighter

good they fucking ruined what could have been the best fighting game this gen. i blame sony mostly tho cuz they gave one of the possibly biggest ip's to a random dev team with no experience. its dog eat dog out there

I meant that considering it's a new IPs, I wasn't really confident it could outdo much older franchises like Smash Bros, Street Fighter, DoA, Tekken... Is my point a little bit clearer now cherry pie?

I imagine they'll fire Team Ico with an actual firing squad. Or maybe make them commit public sudoku.

So, this game was going to sell gangbusters according to some, no?

Wish the team all the best with their future.

the IP belongs to Santa Monica Studio, so Sony. Its a shame. I am not into fighting games so this game never really appealed to me. I bought it so i could play it with little brother, he never liked it and i didn't want to play it alone. There is no story like the mortal kombat games.

So basically, Sony said: "Thank you, we're taking away from you the chance to make a second one more successful because we didn't want to give you all the resources to make it a success"

They should have been given one more chance for the next Playstation. At least they ended on good terms.
