Forums - Sony - Sony cuts ties with PSASBR devs

This is why i stress about having a a good mastermind behind a studio

a good mastermind will make sure that they perfect each and every single part of their game the best they can at that time. that is when their game gets praise from reviews and the publisher is not afraid to advertise a game that they KNOW will be a hit instead of worrying about advertising a game that they know is an exoskeleton

This is why i stress so much about TeamIco since the mastermind behind the company left. Every studio needs a good mastermind to lead their team to victory!

you can't just put any random person behind a studio..

Now i'm not saying that the head behind SupeBot is useless but i will say that they could have CLEARLY delivered with this game. I mean these motherfuckers CLEARLY had a Wii in their studio and it obviously had to have Brawl in it. I mean you have brawl right there so you seen all the content it had in it but you guys STILL couldn't deliver something similar to the content that was found in brawl(the inspiration of the game)?

like wtf

Really saddened to hear this, I enjoyed PSAS for what it was, but it needed much higher production values, the gameplay was solid, but presentation was very poor :/

But its good to hear Superbot isn't shutting down :)

I think the potential with a Sony cross over fighter is there, but they need to make it more like powerstone (someone else said this too), I think it would help differentiate it from SSB and enable Sony's characters to have more natural move sets :)

I couldn't agree more. Then again everything is about business now, isn't it? The beauty of our modern world...

Yoshida said they are going to focus on fewer titles from now on. As a gamer it makes me sad but I understand it makes more sense from a Business point of view. All we can do is hope for the best

oh and kotaku updated the article..superbot is not closing down

Kotaku updated their post with a statement:

UPDATE: In an e-mail, SuperBot's president David Yang responded to Kotaku's request for comment, saying that the company is "excited about beginning the next chapter of [their] future."

The full statement follows:

SuperBot Entertainment can confirm that the relationship with SCEA has ended on good terms. We are extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to work on with Sony on Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, and are extremely proud of the work we have done. SuperBot Entertainment will continue working on projects that reflect our passion for games and our commitment to creating award winning titles. We are very excited about beginning the next chapter of our future and invite all of our fans and supporters to follow our journey.

Does this mean the IP technically belongs to them, or Sony? I'm confused...

Sony, obviously . It's called Playstation All-Stars for pete's sake!

B,b,but... Sega owns technically the IP of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic games, so I thought it would be the same here... nevermind.

And yet, we want MOAR power next gen. See how many developers also bite the dust for that reason.

And when the dust settles, all we'll have left are the EAs, Activisions, Capcoms and Ubisofts of the world, pushing their Day 1 DLC, on disc DLC, always online requirements even for single player campaigns, rush it out now and patch it later philosophies, online passes and crappy, mandatory servers like Origin. Them, and an indie hit every now and then, but practically no mid-range devs in between to make the games that aren't exactly blockbuster, but don't need to sell three million copies minimum just to be considered successful.

A shame really. PSABR is a fun game and superbot got most things right, making it a very good launch pad for bigger and better sequels. There are people who've played lots of SSBB and prefer PSABR, and there are people who prefer SSBB. so I dispute any claim that SSBB is an objectively better game, it comes down to preference on certain aspects of detail..

Kudos to Superbot, and very sad if they have to shut up shop as a result of this.

makes me wonder what Sony will do with a studio like Team Ico.. I mean.. you know.. do they even come to work?

Team Ico is a proven quality studio though with a unique mastermind behind it all.... well.. atleast they used to have a unique mastermind before he left

We just have to hope that Sony can win people likee him back over next gen with the PS4. The games(especially in japan) need to start off with decent numbers while also showing that they have potential to grow and the only way for this to happens is for The people to actually buy the PS4 from jump instead of it having a slow start that lasted for years. In order for it to not have a slow start like the ps3, they need to launch it at the infamous $399 price point

The main guy behind the Ape Escape series left aswell but hopefully these guys will come back around next gen. We just need Sony to play their cards right this time

HAHAHAHA You funny. Smash Bros Brawl says hello!

Don't you read his post? "what coulda been"

And no, SBB is not the best fighting game this gen, ever heard of SF4, TTT2 or DOA5?

But you rated Dead or Alive a 5/10?

And there are still people who say bad financial numbers don't affect them. This is what happens when your company has lost most of it's financial muscle.

This generation has been brutal, I think some people like Pachtclown want the industry to implode.

Is that the only reason for them doing this? If so, then why did MS close a ton of studios this gen?

Because Microsoft had other plans, other vision. Lack of funds make you change your philosophy, Sony wanted to have tons of very different games, but reality has punched them in the face, and now they are going to have a strategy that resembles a lot the one Microsoft had this generation, lower number of games with higher budget.

I thought a guy like you would understand my original comment, but it seems that sometimes people overvalue you.

Well a 15/20 combined with the ps3 version so its 7.5/10, spot on with the critic reviews.

Turkish just being Turkish. DOA5 is rated 74% on meta... doesn't really live up to SSBB.
