Forums - Sony - Sony cuts ties with PSASBR devs

So, this game was going to sell gangbusters according to some, no?

Wish the team all the best with their future.

The majority of people who expected it to sell a couple mill like me were expecting for the studio to have delivered with the game ON ALL FRONTS

meaning all the game modes, mini games, being able to unlock characters and stages, etc. We also  expected no brainers like Crash and Spyro to represent their places in the game here but of course the MAIN PlayStation mascots didn't show up. Lastly, i'm sure everybody was hoping(like me) for Sony to really PUSH this game during the holiday season being that it was the main game for the season for Sony but guess what? THEY DIDN'T

sh!t happens i guess..

That's the Sony way.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

I couldn't agree more. Then again everything is about business now, isn't it? The beauty of our modern world...

Yoshida said they are going to focus on fewer titles from now on. As a gamer it makes me sad but I understand it makes more sense from a Business point of view. All we can do is hope for the best

oh and kotaku updated the article..superbot is not closing down

Kotaku updated their post with a statement:

UPDATE: In an e-mail, SuperBot's president David Yang responded to Kotaku's request for comment, saying that the company is "excited about beginning the next chapter of [their] future."

The full statement follows:

SuperBot Entertainment can confirm that the relationship with SCEA has ended on good terms. We are extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to work on with Sony on Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale, and are extremely proud of the work we have done. SuperBot Entertainment will continue working on projects that reflect our passion for games and our commitment to creating award winning titles. We are very excited about beginning the next chapter of our future and invite all of our fans and supporters to follow our journey.

Does this mean the IP technically belongs to them, or Sony? I'm confused...

the IP belongs to Santa Monica Studio, so Sony. Its a shame. I am not into fighting games so this game never really appealed to me. I bought it so i could play it with little brother, he never liked it and i didn't want to play it alone. There is no story like the mortal kombat games.

So basically, Sony said: "Thank you, we're taking away from you the chance to make a second one more successful because we didn't want to give you all the resources to make it a success"

it honestly should have been "more successful" the 1st time around..

Then again, Sony messed up pretty bad. Wasn't all SuperBot's fault.

yes, but they both didn't deliver how they should've but this behavior to not push their own games is nothing new so we were pretty much aware that it could happen with Battle Royale

Shame, but unsurprising. I have been enjoying Playstation All-Stars.

The market has just completely fallen through for these sort of not-AAA-but-still-full-priced titles. I would imagine Sony are just going to stop investing in them altogether soon. Twisted Metal, Starhawk & PSABR all pretty much flopped last year and caused big layoffs, despite the fact that the games were generally pretty good.

That's not counting all the teams not just at Sony that have been shutting down from just one game underperforming (despite doing well previously) - studios like Eurocom, Dark Energy Digital, Radical Entertainment etc. etc. This industry is falling apart.

I just want to know what the budget for this game was

The game couldn't have costed much because there was like no game modes, the cutscenes were like short still-cartoons, and the graphics were just "good" for what it was

I'm guessing SuperBot had WAAAAAAYYYY too many people working on something that really only needed a fraction of the people so they laid the excess off. I guess Sony decided to  cut ties from them since they didn't deliver as good as they should have with the game but it's still Sony's fault for not getting the word out to the people WHO ARE NOT people on forums like us who generally always know more than the average consumer

and i think this industry needs a change. That change is a relatively good NEW console that doesn't cost a leg and an arm to get. I really think that the PS4's launching at $399 will really slap this industry into shape

I would 100% disagree.  How does going from a system that has 70+ million userbase, or 140 million if you count both HD systems, become better to jump on a system that has 0 userbase?

It doesn't matter if this PS4 is $800 or $300, the userbase pales in comparison to the 360/ps3 userbase.  Then you have to consider production costs.  Like every generation before it will go up with a new one.  So gaming companies which are dropping like flies because they aren't making money would now be selling a more expensive game to less people.

Sorry but that in no way sounds like what this gaming industry needs.  The gaming industry might actually not need a PS4/720 for a few years.  The gaming industry rigith now is struggling.  Too many companies going under lately.

I have a feeling this next gen we will have like only a few giant companies making games, like EA.  No small guys anywhere.

HAHAHAHA You funny. Smash Bros Brawl says hello!

Someone has some major reading comprehension issues....learn to read please. Coz you know, the internet is littered with stupid ass idiots, you wouldn't want to be counted as one of them now would you.

If PS4 launches at a cheap price then japanese deves should be a lot more of their games on the consoles becuase they wo't have to worry about the game NOT selling like on PS3

but i mainly just plugged the $399 part in just for the hell of it =P

I mainly just want to constantly get my point across that i want the PS4 to launch at $399 lol

and i hope what you said DOESN'T happen. I'm just going to stick with hoping that the PS4 will be something good for the industry instead of being scared of it like you are implying

Obviously you didn't read the other posts. And I don't feel like explaining my thoughts to you. My native language is French, I find myself lucky to talk with all of you and understand a great portion of it.

Better explanation for people who are not able to take care of their own business: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=5092800

Try being respectful next time. It couldn't be the best fighting game this gen, nothing could outdo SSB.

aight ill say my last word and leave this thread. I think the who brawl idea was stupid and very limiting.

i think the premise of bring a bunch playstation universes is cool, but Polygon man... really?

They could have made it a moba style multiplayer game, with a Kingdom Hearts style single player mode. Make an awesome story with all the playstation characters... but no they didn't call me ask me for opinion their lost. Now they are being shut down.
