Forums - Sony - Sony cuts ties with PSASBR devs

On the topic, it really is Sony's fault this time. Not enough efficient promotion, making a young dev team handling the production of what could have been one of the biggest games of 2012 and not giving enough faith into the selling power of their own characters. If Smash Bros has become this big, it's because Nintendo gave it a lot of effort and time to make it flourish. The concept really works. They just need to get their act together.

Companies are starting to drop like flies. The VGChartz "latest stories" section is pretty much an obituary for the game industry right now.

Kind of scary considering it'll cost even more do develop games for next generation most likely.

Yeah there is change in the air.  Only a select few are going to be able to support (safe) AAA games, and the rest are going to go low end (less of a money investmenr) PSN/LiveArcade/Mobile.   The middle is going to fall out.

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

HAHAHAHA You funny. Smash Bros Brawl says hello!

Don't you read his post? "what coulda been"

And no, SBB is not the best fighting game this gen, ever heard of SF4, TTT2 or DOA5?

Yes I heard of them, I actually played them. I still hold my position.

I dont consider it a fighter, SSB is hardly a fighting game imo.

how isnt ssb a fighting game? But psasbr is?

No one can say a certain fighting game is better than another as a 'fact'. It's all a matter of opinion. I mean heck there are many who don't even consider smash to be a fighting game. It's all about preference

Well assuming that both of them, SSBB and PASBR have actually the same concept more or less, the comparison is fair. Comparing to the likes of Street Fighter wouldn't be that much fair.

ugh there are people who think all stars is one of the best fighting games and the same obviously goes to smash (much more as that franchise has a much bigger fanbase)

again you can't say someone is wrong about what the 'best' in a genre can be..it's preference.

A LOT of things went wrong with this project sadly and they got too much negative feedback from the gaming world. I feel bad for them as it's such a fun game. We even had some pretty badass co op games here at vgc.

My hope is that, with Seth being a big part of Santa Monica now, they will grab some of the talent of Superbot and make a mascot brawler again in the future. I will really miss it if they don't

As much as I celebrate Sony's failures, because I'm a really mean fanboy, I still wish they can give it time and faith. Not seeing this as a cash cow, but as a baby who can grow up with a little more love and time spent on it. The potential is there, I hope Sony realizes this and see PASBR as an exciting addition to their IPs. They have to trust it. Not let it down because of one mistake.

This thread is a battlefield, i better step away and move on.

Please tell me how PASBR is a fighting game and SSBB isn't.

And there are still people who say bad financial numbers don't affect them. This is what happens when your company has lost most of it's financial muscle.

This generation has been brutal, I think some people like Pachtclown want the industry to implode.

To be honest it is a skeleton game anyway.

The only reason to play it are:

1. One time through arcade mode with each character.
2. Online or local matches.

Where is the story mode? Why isn't there some sort of challenge tower? Bonus modes?

I own and like the game, the fighting is fun, but I didn't pay anywhere close to full price for it and nobody should, game is a skeleton of content, sales are appropiate.

you mean an exoskeleton right? if so then i agree with what you are trying to say

the game is a hollow exoskeleton

their is nothing really there on the inside when you dig deep

SuperBot could have did a better job on that front

My personal issue is that Sony do not know how to market their games now. People aren't going to buy a game if they don't know what the hell they are buying. And seeing real life characters from games doesn't guarantee people have any idea what the hell is going on in the commercials. They need to start showing gameplay. If they're so focused on showing off what their games are capable of, why do they have to have live action commercials?

You forgot to mention the THQ fiasco though. It's terrible seeing a company you've known since you were a child on its last breath. I'm looking at Atari as well since they just filed for bankruptcy recently as well.

Well, you're completely right about that too of course.  And about THQ (for some reason they completely slipped my mind, although I wasn't short of other studios to list who had gone under recently).

I worry that the future is just going to be made up of indie games and AAA titles, which would absolutely blow in my opinion.  The industry needs the middle.

I agree. I also fear that companies will become even more afraid of new IPs since known franchises are becoming the only guaranteed success for many companies.

It is already happening for many companies. Yearly iterations of success franchises, overmilked intellectual properties while other makes indie games over the eShop, PSN, XBL and even mobile devices because they can't afford the costs of a much bigger game right now.
