Forums - Gaming - Are you a Bayonetta fan, and will you be buying WiiU to play the sequel?

I have the first Bayonetta but I really didn't care for it that much and I still haven't finished it. Also, after the horrible port job, and it really was incredibly shoddy, I have no urge to support the series or anyone involved with it. Even if I end up buying a Wii U, I doubt I would pick up Bayonetta 2 unless it's in the bargain bin.

I can understand how Bayonetta fans feel, though, and I wouldn't really blame them for turning their backs on the series. Bayonetta was a success, with around 2 million copies sold, which is pretty nice for a new IP in a niche genre. Any other publisher would have pushed a sequel and tried to build a franchise. Sega, however, is pretty much crap and sold the rights to the highest bidder. Because of the complete mismanagement of this series, I kind of hope it's something of a failure.

Sega didn't "sell the rights to the highest bidder." They just pulled the plug on the game completely until Nintendo came by and decided to pick it up.

I wonder how much, if any, money Sega got out of this, actually. Seems to me they only own the rights to the game developed before Nintendo picked it up, and possibly own the IP

dood, the sequel was canceled until Nintendo stepped in and funded it, if it was successful, it'd be multi platform to start with. ^^; Also remember that Japan is starting to do the cross over thing more and more whereas western publishers are all trying to middle finger each other, I think we'll start to see really really good JP games again in the 8th gen where the good devs from the old days will come out with awesome stuff on all platforms, I'm hoping anyways.

We don't know that. Another publisher like Square Enix or Namco Bandai could've picked up the game for multiplatform development.

Nintendo obviously made them an offer they couldn't refuse. Which is fair enough.

Well I'm sure the Japanese developers will make some great games for the next gen, From Software is going to be doing something special from what I can see.

Like i said to pokoko, from what i can tell, it didn't seem like Sega was trying to sell it. Sega just sort of killed it, then Nintendo made the effort to pick it up. It is possible another publisher would have picked it up if Sega had been actively trying to sell the IP.

Although like pokoko indicated, the role Sega still holds with the franchise and IP is now unclear.

I'll just buy Bayonetta 2 for collection purpose and borrow a Wii U.

I'm getting one for Bayonetta 2, SMT x Fire Emblem, and Xenoblade 2. So, whenever they release in 2013-2014 and/or a price cut.

Am I a Bayonetta fan? Yes.
Will I be buying a WiiU for Bayonetta? No.
Will I get a WiiU anyways? Why yes, I got a launch one!
Will I be getting Bayonetta 2? Day one.

Its because the PS3 and 360 consumers made that game successful enough to warrant a sequel.

That's the thing though, PS360 consumers didn't make it successful enough to warrant a sequel; SEGA declined to publish the sequel. Bayo 1 failed to crack 2 million across both PS3 and 360. It wasn't exactly a catastophic flop, but for an AAA production with stellar reviews it wasn't a hit either.

Nintendo didn't bag Bayonetta because the franchise is a goldmine; it isn't. They bagged it to make their image more "hardcore."

The sales were almost 2 mil, thats not a disaster by any account. Its not bad.

If those consumers didn't buy Bayonetta Platinum Games would have no reason to make a sequel. The point is the consumers who made that game worthy of a sequel will not neccessarily want a Wii U. Which is my position, at the moment the console dosen't interest me.

Well Nintendo have got Bayonetta, whether its a goldmine or not I don't know. Best of luck to Platinum Games, but its unlikley I'll be buying the game, and I think a lot of other fans will be in that position as well.

It wasn't a disaster, I said that. But SEGA didn't seem to think the first game was successful enough to warrant a sequel as they pulled the plug on it.

Platinum did say that bayo 2 "wouldn't exist" without Nintendo.

I think it's very strange that Nintendo bought Bayonetta 2. Nobody with only Wiis played the first and it's unlikely that MS and Sony fans who did play it will buy a Wii U for the sequel. So Nintendo fans will never get to play the first and Bayonetta fans will be pissed at Nintendo. It doesn't seem worth it for such a niche game.

A lot of Nintendo fans own another console; I'm one of them. And Nintendo sees it as "worth it" because they want a "hardcore" exclusive to harden their image.

I don't know. Nintendo payed a lot to get Resident Evil exclusives for the same mature gamer reasons. The GCN got a remake of RE, a prequel, some ports, and RE4. There were all great, but here we are two generations later and Nintendo still is known as the family machine.

I think Nintendo will always be known as "the family machine", but a game like Bayonetta 2 does say to the "hardcore" that "we care about you too."
