Because of the complete mismanagement of this series, I kind of hope it's something of a failure.

Why would yopu wish failure on either Platinum for making a sequel at all, or Nintendo for saving it? It sounds like you're angry at SEGA, but Bayo 2 flopping now won't hurt them.

I'm not angry, as I didn't care that much for the game.  It's really, really goofy and I just couldn't get into it the way I did with DMC.  It's one of those games where you're like "... what the hell?" every few minutes and some of her special moves were just embarressing to use.  If I were to be angry about anything it would be that I bought a game that was nearly unplayable until it was patched and I think that would be a legit reason to be annoyed with both Platinum and SEGA.

I don't have a problem with what Nintendo did, though, not unless it turns out that the game was going to be multi-platform until they pulled out the money-hat.  Even if that were the case, it's not like anyone would ever admit it, so it's a moot point and not worth thinking about.

SEGA still owns Bayonetta, regardless.  How it performs definitely matters to them.

Ah, it would  seem I misinterpreted you somewhat.

I'm actually not so sure Sega actually owns the franchise. They aren't co-publishing Bayo 2, Nintendo's doing that alone.

And Platinum have come out and said that the game "wouldn't exist without Nintendo", for the record, suggesting it was pretty much Wii U exclusive or nothing.

I'm no Bayonetta fan. But I'd do anything to see it being a success. Heck, I bought Monster Hunter 3 because I wanted to help Capcom, I gave it a try afterwards and wasn't so fan of it XD

I might rent it. Then, we'll see. My comfort zone is really limited to Nintendo and RTS games.

I'm pretty sure SEGA still owns the rights to Bayonetta.  They're officially "advisors" or something, which wouldn't make sense if Platinum owned the rights or if Nintendo bought them from SEGA.  The SEGA logo is on the Bayonetta 2 promotional material, supposedly.  It looks to me like Nintendo is simply publishing Bayonetta 2.  I don't know how much SEGA stands to profit but it's obviously in their interest for the franchise to prosper, despite their mismanagement.

I probably shouldn't have said I hope it fails because I don't actually care.  Rather, it wouldn't bother me if it fails, as I have a hard time respecting how Platinum and SEGA have handled it, especially with regards to people who supported it on the PS3.  It's closer to a sense of apathy than anything else.  That's actually pretty bad coming from me, as I'm someone who generally hopes all segments of the industry stay healthy, even if they're not to my taste.

I'm not a fan as I haven't played the first one, but I'll definitely get Bayonetta 2.

Will come anyway to PS4 and NextBox someday
I remember "RE4 will never come to any other console"...now its everywhere.
Or tons exclusives of the PS360 Gen.It was the last time i bought a console for 1-2 games with the 360 for Tales of Vesperia and SO4 only to play the better version on the PS3 at the end -.-

And no i won't buy a WiiU for it - I will buy a WiiU for Zelda(only exception cause of fanboyism) and then i will buy other games that are available on that console at the end of the WiiUGen.

I don't think so. Pretty sure Platnium is close to being a 2nd party developer for Nintendo compared to Capcom (RE) who has always been 3rd party.

Its because the PS3 and 360 consumers made that game successful enough to warrant a sequel.

That's the thing though, PS360 consumers didn't make it successful enough to warrant a sequel; SEGA declined to publish the sequel. Bayo 1 failed to crack 2 million across both PS3 and 360. It wasn't exactly a catastophic flop, but for an AAA production with stellar reviews it wasn't a hit either.

Nintendo didn't bag Bayonetta because the franchise is a goldmine; it isn't. They bagged it to make their image more "hardcore."

The sales were almost 2 mil, thats not a disaster by any account. Its not bad.

If those consumers didn't buy Bayonetta Platinum Games would have no reason to make a sequel. The point is the consumers who made that game worthy of a sequel will not neccessarily want a Wii U. Which is my position, at the moment the console dosen't interest me.

Well Nintendo have got Bayonetta, whether its a goldmine or not I don't know. Best of luck to Platinum Games, but its unlikley I'll be buying the game, and I think a lot of other fans will be in that position as well.

dood, the sequel was canceled until Nintendo stepped in and funded it, if it was successful, it'd be multi platform to start with. ^^; Also remember that Japan is starting to do the cross over thing more and more whereas western publishers are all trying to middle finger each other, I think we'll start to see really really good JP games again in the 8th gen where the good devs from the old days will come out with awesome stuff on all platforms, I'm hoping anyways.

We don't know that. Another publisher like Square Enix or Namco Bandai could've picked up the game for multiplatform development.

Nintendo obviously made them an offer they couldn't refuse. Which is fair enough.

Well I'm sure the Japanese developers will make some great games for the next gen, From Software is going to be doing something special from what I can see.

No and No.

We don't know that either, it could be that nobody wanted to pick it up then Nintendo went for it after looking at the situation :P I'm just happy there is a sequel though.
