240fps is overkill, but it does have an advantage. The problem is not rendering 240fps, heck the PS3 could do it depending on what it's rendering. The problem is outputting it and having the TV accept the input. You can't currently send signals over 60Hz over HDMI, and no TV, whatever it says on the tin, will actually accept input higher than 60Hz.
Also, as users on this forum have said, to render games at higher framerates you need to sacrifice visuals and resolution. We'll be happy to even get 1080p and 60fps in most games, as developers and publishers always want to push visuals ahead of performance.
