Forums - Nintendo - Smash bros brawl shortages in Japan.

Normally you would be cautious with console sales because the cost to produce a console decreases so you want to make as many of your consoles at the lower prices as you can without shorting demand. Its a balancing act.

But with game discs the cost is the same across the board....DVD production has been thoroughly mastered and its not getting any cheaper any time soon.

Add in the fact that CDs and DVDs are produced at rates in the range of tens of thousands per hour at most production facilities and I am having a hard time understanding this. Perhaps in pushing back the date they put it too close to when production was starting and they are only going to have a few days of production??

Whatever the issue is I hope they get it resolved =P Not much time left though.

Then make more factories. These shortages are really starting to annoy me. It's as if Nintendo just doesn't want to rule the universe.

I'd sure as hell do.

 LMAO LMAO LMAO

That tickled me.

Once bitten twice shy.

I have to agree with a couple of the other posters, 2 generations of fighting uphill and the less than stellar opening numbers of Galaxy in Japan have undoubtedly made Nintendo a little cautious. I think when Nintendo sees how many copies this game sells it will go a long way towards restoring their former bravado.

I also agree. After its lackluster performance the past two generations and the lukewarm reception of Galaxy in Japan, it makes good business sense for Nintendo to be cautious; however, I also agree that they should have antiicpated how MASSIVE Brawl would be.

I love Mario games, but Sunshine and even Galaxy really do not appeal to me. Mario 64 is still the epitome of Mario perfection and has yet to be topped (IMO). I skipped Galaxy, but who in their right mind would pass up Super Smash Brothers?!?!?!?!?!

Hope this doesn't happen in America. I will push people out of my way to secure my copy. But I don't want to resort to that, so hopefully the shortages won't plague America.

LMAO LMAO LMAO A little hostile, but I can totally understand. It's for the good of all that we secure our copies of Brawl!

Actually Iwata has this button on his desk:

Don't get so worked up over that news report with the anecdotal source! Looking at the fiscal report, Nintendo are shipping around 250k Wii games every single day (and twice as much last quarter, during the holidays). They will be able to handle this much better than their hardware shortages.

Hardcore gaming is a bubble economy blown up by Microsoft's $7 $6 billion losses.

We may see what happened with WiiFit, with a more evenly distributed production run. Still, they should have had a better idea based on pre-orders. I hope to be proved wrong.

This just amazes me that a company can underestimate one of their best selling games ever by not even meeting pre-orders. I don't think Nintendo has even been in the Red so what the hell do they do with all their money, they must have cash reserves of over 10billion.

I thought the reason for the delay was to make enough copies...

I don't believe they underestimated demand by a wide margin. They aren't that stupid. I think they won't sell first shipment during first week (Japan).
