Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo fans, Why do you hate Sony so much?

I hate Sony because of Heavy Rain.

To be a little more specific, I hate the direction video games are headed with Heavy Rain as the most extreme transgression I can think of. Sony seems to be activly courting this trend by developing their own 'story-driven' or 'charatcer-driven' "games". I can't stand it, I hope there will be companies around for a while longer that actually create games instead of thinking they need to generate emotions or whatever Sony's vision for the PS4 was.

If it makes you feel any better I don't feel any better about Microsoft, and I'm not 100% confident that Nintendo won't go down the same path either.

But Nintendo has recently created:

Freakyforms Deluxe

Dillon's Rolling Western

Kid Icarus: Uprising

Sakura Samurai: Art of the Sword

Ketzal's Corridors

Steel Diver

Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon

Pushmo

Spirit Camera

Wonderul 101

And many others.

Or are you not aware of these 1st Party IPs?

Not true. Nintendo makes tech specifically for themselves then forces the devs to make games for them, Sony and Microsoft provide the specs and let the devs roam free. Before Sony came Nintendo had third party devs under the rule of a locked chip on the SNES.

How do you explain the Sega Genesis & PS1 & Sega Dreamcast?

Plus the Wii U is as easy to develop for as the 360.

And both the 3DS & Wii U give 3rd parties 100% freedom to make the kind of games they want, like Binding of Isaac 3DS. This also means that the 3DS & Wii U can have games that have more blood and gore and so fort in them then games for PS & Xbox.

So both PS3/PS4 & 360/720 limits the mature content while the 3DS & Wii U allow every disgusting thing to be made. And the Wii U also allows more indie developers to make games for it then PS3/PS4 & 360/720.

Nintendo had been holding Sega back for a long time by holding down third party devs who depended on their specs which were better than Segas at the time. After the Genesis era it was all Segas fault with huge internal miscommunication. Nintendo succeeded in keeping the bulk of the games away from Sega. Sega eventually got the third party titles slowly as their marketshare expanded during the genesis era and was seen as the "cool" console compared to Nintendo who remained traditional and family friendly.

Plus the Wii U is as easy to develop for as the 360.

The Wii U wont be competing against the 360 next year. This is where Nintendo pays the piper for alienating third parties yet again. They will be ignored. No one cares that its easier to develop for compared to old tech.

And both the 3DS & Wii U give 3rd parties 100% freedom to make the kind of games they want, like Binding of Isaac 3DS. This also means that the 3DS & Wii U can have games that have more blood and gore and so fort in them then games for PS & Xbox.

The 3DS gives devs freedom because its a current gen portable and has low budget titles that can amass major amounts of profit for their development. Handhelds have always been Nintendos most popular platform. The Wii U is having a hard time nailing its market and when the next gen consoles launch do you think the western devs will have pity on Nintendo and dumb down every game for them? No. The third party devs have been empowered by Sony and Microsoft and Nintendo no longer calls the shots.

So both PS3/PS4 & 360/720 limits the mature content while the 3DS & Wii U allow every disgusting thing to be made. And the Wii U also allows more indie developers to make games for it then PS3/PS4 & 360/720.

Western devs made sure to ask Sony and Microsoft for 8GB of ram to last them the gen and they complied with the requests. Nintendo did not and they will lose  probably 95% of the multiplats coming next gen unless they are dumbed down severely. Nintendo is screwing with last gen tech. Nintendo will have to fend for themselves and will barely be able to satisfy next gen engines when devs hope to expand levels to next gen status.

Aware of some, even excited for a couple of them and unaware of others. Not sure the point of the list is, but if it is to illustrate a commitment to gameplay driven design from Nintendo then sure. There is a reason why I have become a Nintendo gamer the past two generations and it is because they seem to have a philosophy about games closer to mine than the competition. I admit to being uneducated in the world of smaller and creative offering on the PS3 and Xbox 360, so I am operating a lot on gut feeling and overall direction I sense from the big time franchises that are being pushed.

I am worried that with encreased power comes increased desire for 'emotion' driven games for Nintendo. I used to be real pessimistic about the future of gaming, but it looks like the infrastructure is opening up and there will be viable platforms for independent high quality game development that I am frankly pretty excited about.

Now, that´s new. Do Nintendo really forces devs to do anything ? I really doubt it. See, for example, how many control options it offer with the WiiU: gamepad, Wiimote+Nunchuck, Pro Controller, Classic Controller. I remember that some fighting games for the Wii only could de proper played with the Classic Controller, like Tatsunoko vs Capcom.

I think that developers are just resilient, not to say lazy, to develop to Nintendo consoles, but they don´t need to be that specific because the console gives them options. They don´t need to use all of them. just like they don´t need to put in every one of their production support for Kinect or Move or whatever.

Well Id imagine every Nintendo fan has a God given right to hate Sony. If you dont, then you aren't a real Nintendo fan.

- PS1 unseated Nintendo as the dominant power in gaming.
- PS2 crushed Gamecube to the point that it was just insulting.
- Nintendo, backed into a corner by Sony, was forced to go to the casuals with the Wii to gain some marketshare back. Nintendo gamers who didn't like motion gaming? Thank Sony for that, forcing Nintendo to go the route less traveled.
- With Wiiu, trying to go back to the core gamer, the casuals that made them successful didn't follow them, and are now in their current position. Because of Wii motion controls alienating 3rd parties, that strained relationship has also migrated to the WiiU. Again, thank Sony for that Nintendo fans.

MS has their own reasons, but for Nintendo fans the hate runs far deeper, or at least should.

If they want to be irrational, yes.

Well if your just a no loyalty gamer who just plays games for the fun of it, then I would imagine they dont care.

But for fans.......I would use the term "patriotic" then irrationality.
