Nintendo's compromises generally relate to regulation of publishers (which is why many dislike them) in order to protect consumers.

Sony's compromises generally relate to regulation of consumers, in order to protect publishers.

Not true. Nintendo makes tech specifically for themselves then forces the devs to make games for them, Sony and Microsoft provide the specs and let the devs roam free. Before Sony came Nintendo had third party devs under the rule of a locked chip on the SNES.

Now, that´s new. Do Nintendo really forces devs to do anything ? I really doubt it. See, for example, how many control options it offer with the WiiU: gamepad, Wiimote+Nunchuck, Pro Controller, Classic Controller. I remember that some fighting games for the Wii only could de proper played with the Classic Controller, like Tatsunoko vs Capcom.

I think that developers are just resilient, not to say lazy, to develop to Nintendo consoles, but they don´t need to be that specific because the console gives them options. They don´t need to use all of them. just like they don´t need to put in every one of their production support for Kinect or Move or whatever.
